Does anybody know anything about getting the hands in the correct position, everytime I make an animation the hands are always further outwards than I want them, even when I stick them in the stomach part. Say I want them on the hips they'll be much wider than what I want.

This is because your avatar size is different from the model you used to create the animation. You can either try and change your model in Poser (or whatever animation tool you are using) to match the avatar size better, or just keep adjusting the animation by trial and error until it fits as well as you can get it.
Also, check all the camera angles in Poser so you don't get caught out by something that looks right from one view and is wrong from another.
