In creating a gesture, is there any way to keep the expression going throughout the rest of the animation?

For example, I did a point and laugh animation that was uploaded with the laugh expression, but I'd really like it to keep going until the gesture is finished instead of fading out after a second.

I think you can do it when you create a gesture. Inside your gesture properties try making it look like this...

play animation: your_gesture
play animation: laugh
wait: 3 seconds
play animation:laugh
wait: 3 seconds
play animation:laugh
etc...

Where laugh is the expression animation. I don't know the exact names of everything.

Yep, I tried that. Didn't work, and if I lowered the priority of the main animation, it didn't work AND it shut down the main animation.

I have no idea if it's a current bug, a strange situation with my single gesture, or just the way things are.

EDIT: I erased it all, and did it again a few hours later... and it worked. Got to love weirdnesses.
