I found a new (to me) animation program that supports BVH files: Endorphin - Dynamic Motion Synthesis http://naturalmotion.com/I don't know if the BVH animation files that this program outputs are compatible with SL, but it's a spiffy peice of software. It kind of combines simulated rag-doll physics with keyframing and allows for an amazing amount of control. Their website has some very interesting videos that demo the software, and a FREE learning editing. The learning addition is export-disabled but it is a great for anyone who likes tinkering with character animation. The student editon is 'only' $995.
