fall animations

Hi all. well, i have to questions about animations.
First, i want to do an animation of fight and i want that the character falls to the ground and then he stays in the ground for a moment and stand up, i have the avimator and the poser 6, i use more the avimator but i like to do something with the poser too, how can i do that? it has be done with the poser or i can do it with avimator?

I use Poser - and you're in for a lot of work :)

It depends on how you want to set things up - will you have *one* animation or will you have more? If you plan to do this in one animation keep in mind that animations are limited to - I believe - 900 frames. If you use 30 fps this will be 30 seconds - going with 10 fps you will have 90 seconds to play with. 90 seconds isn't much for what you describe :)

As for *how do I do this* ....

frame one "empty" - the posing starts at frame 2
and then frame for frame the changes - if your posing tool can interpolate it is easier to set keyframes only and see how the interpolation works out - twist it, whenever it isn't really working well.

When you want your avi to remain on the ground for a bit, just keep the same animation for a couple of frames. With 10 fps using 30 frames with the same pose will keep him on the ground for 3 seconds.

Careful there with misinformation

All of my animations are at 20fps as it seems to run a bit smoother. No matter what, I never can go past 30 seconds. So, it is based on seconds rather than frames.

The staying down part if left too long will be thrown out by SL when uploading. It is because SL optimises the bvh to deal with lag. To be able to make a pause, you have to move a body part enough to make sure SL doesn't throw it out.

Hey all.

Luth is right about not being able to go past 30 seconds. This is because SL's animation upload menu limits our animations to 30 seconds per bvh upload.

The math behind frames in the animation timeline and frames per second is really pretty simple.

30 seconds * frames per second = number of frames

Example;

If we set our frames per second to 8fps, and we are limited to 30 seconds of animation time, we can have 240 frames on our timeline to work with.

8fps * 30 secs = 240 frames

10fps * 30 secs = 300 frames

15fps * 30 secs = 450 frames

20fps * 30 secs = 600 frames

30fps * 30 secs = 900 frames


These examples assume that we wish to use the entire 30 second limit for our animation.
Obviously not all animations will require 30 seconds to achieve the desired result but, for more length and action like described at the top of this post, there are ways to stream multiple animations VIA LSL (scripting). So, even though it's not possible to upload a 90 second animation in SL, it is possible to upload 3 30 second animations and stream them over 90 seconds.

I did one atv 30 fps and got at 900 frames and thought by lowering the fps rate I might squeeze out more seconds - didn't have had time to test it yet, though. My mistake!
