Using Life Forms v4.009 to write anis?

Hello everyone, I am new to the SL commnunity and I am attempting to create some animations. I'm using an app called Life Forms to write the anis. This app is able to export to .bvh, just like Poser. Unfortunately these anis do not work when uploaded to SL. I *THINK* the problem is with the default models' joints. Although the prog is able to import models, it cannot import P2 models (doh!). I sent a sample .bvh to another player who then imported it into Poser in order to apply it to the proper model, and then exported the bvh again and uploaded it to SL. Worked just fine like this. Great, but its a big inconvience. Unfortunately I can't use Poser because 1. It cost entirely too much money and 2.The only demo version I am able to find is cripple-ware (save and export functions are disabled :( -- anyone know where theres a non-crippled demo? HAHA).

So is there anyone here who has successfully used Life Forms to create SL anis?? Thanks in advance :)

There's probably not going to be an easy solution to your problem. Most likely the bone names are differeing in LifeForms than they are in Poser and SL. You should compare the .bvh file that was converted in poser to the one that came out of Lifeforms. If you're really lucky you may be able to fix it using find and replace in a text editor to change the bone names. There may also be scale issues though. A .bvh is just a text file. You can open them in notepad.

yea actually I had the same idea and I left her a msg ingame. I'm just waiting for her to sign on and so it so she can email me the bvh hehe...

at any rate it is nice to know I can probably still write the animations in this program... even though there were 'joint errors' when we imported into poser, the animation we uploaded still played correctly.

Ok guys I got it to work, thanks a lot :)

Your guess was right, Chip -- the only difference between the two files was the names of the bones . Luckily, lifeforms can import a model from a bvh file, so I just imported the file that Sensual sent back to me. It created a crude 3D model and used the correct names and parent data. Then I just saved the model :)

Awesome :) I'm glad there was an easy fix for you. It's nice to know there's something besides Poser that can be used.
