I was looking to buy Poser when I found a program called Poser Artist. I'm not sure if it's the same software, but Poser Artist was about $40 cheaper than Poser. Has anyone tried this Poser Artist program? And can we use it for SL? The description I read didn't tell me if it specifically supported BVH files or anything. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. :D

Poser Artist is just Poser 4 renamed, and it will do everything you need for SL. :) Getting Poser 5 is not needed unless you plan to use the program for things outside of SL. Version 5 only has a few more features (none related to animation I think) and a better rendering program, so unless you plan to use Poser for art and other things, Poser Artist is all you need.

Hope that helped. :)

That helps a GREAT deal, Princess. Thank you very much. :D I'll give Poser Artist a try then. Yay!

from what I read on the Curious Labs site, Poser Artist is $109, and Poser 5 is $199.

The Poser 5 upgrade is around $100. So you don't really lose anything by buying Artist first... you can always upgrade to 5 later and still have spent about the same $200 as P5 new.

Hehehe, wish I'd realized this before spending the $200. Ah well, I'm sure I'll make use of all he features eventually. :)

I found the Poser Artist price quote on Amazon. To buy it brand new, it was around the high 80's price. I haven't gone back yet though. Keep getting distracted.

then you can buy PA for $80, get the P5 upgrade for $100, and pay $180 instead of ~$200 for Poser 5.

The only potential downside is installation munging -- is it worth $20 to you to not have to install two pieces of software down the road, making the huge presumption that you ever need any of the features of Poser 5 anyway? :)

It makes me feel a lot better about buying Poser 4 in total 'impulse buy' mode the other day. I payed abut 89$ and I was afraid it might have been a bad deal or not good enough for SL.

I'm a newbie (to SL and graphics) and I've been sort of collecting graphics software (mostly free) so I can play around. Been fun so far, but I seem to spend most of my time undoing whatever I just did :)
