Hi everyone.

I am getting into animations with a friend and have recently been making animations in Qvianimator.

I was wondering if there are any other, maybe more powerful programs out there that someone could recommend? What do YOU use and what works well for you?

I've looked at Poser 8. And have seen mixed reviews for it. Powerful program, but there have been reports of it crashing and not lining up well in Second Life. I would like to know what people think about it before spending 300$ on a program that I will only use for SL.

If it is worth it I will spend it, but if not, eh. I'd go to look for something else.

Other things I've heard about:

U-Poser.

Maya (Out of my budget)

Poser 5-8 and Poser Pro

Daz Studio 3 (Tried it but could not really get anything to work)

Any recommendations?

I like DAZ Studio. It's free and to some extent you get what you pay for. The documentation is very minimal, but it has nice features like being able to move multiple joints in a natural fashion by pulling on hands or feet.

You can pick up old versions of Poser on ebay for pretty cheap and they supposedly work just as well as the current one.

You need an add-on for Poser 6 to export to bvh format for SL upload - check the Smith-Micro web site for a download.

Sorry, can't help you with DAZ.

Blender has an animation section and Domino makes an AV model adapted for Blender. Many of the capabilities for animating in Blender do not transfer to SL. But the basic animation works fine.

I use Daz, bvhacker, and qavimator. I usually do my animations in Daz and then clean them up with bvhacker and qavimator. I haven't had any problems using these animations in Second Life. Are you using the proper SL models?
