Hello,
Im trying to make an animation using Posers walk designer and walk paths. It looks ok in poser, moves around etc. When I import though, it is walking in place, not moving about or rotating.
Does anyone know how to work this, have any suggestions or anything?
Im stumped.

This sounds similar to the problem I had recently when making an animation that would lift a AV up and turn/rotate it. Originally the AV would not rise up or turn. I found out (thanks to helpful people here) that I needed to move/turn the figure via 'hips' and not via 'body' in poser. Never used Walk Designer so I dont know how it 'moves' the model.

Im stumped. It depends on what your going to use it for, but if you just want to change your default walk, you WANT the animation to walk in place. The reason why is, that animations don't actually move you around, they just make it Look like your moving. That is why when you have an animation that moves you around the room (like some of the dance anims) and you turn it off, you snap back to the location you started at. (basicly the anim projected your image, but you never physicly covered that ground) For a default walk, you want to get a Animation Overide (AO) that way, whenever you actually start moving, the walk anim will project the walk animation on the same spot as your physical location, but since your physical location is moving, the animation will move with you and it will look like your walking (did that make sense?) Hope I understood the problem, otherwise I just insulted you by talling you stuff you already knew

lol dont worry im not insulted,
however, yes what i want to make is an animation that appears to move around like a dance animation. not a walk to replace my walk. i wanted to make an animation where my av will run in a figure of 8, looping back to the beginning of the animation.
I can get this quickly and easily in poser with walk designer and the walk paths, somthing is amiss though on upload. Im figuring yes its somthing to do with the body being moved in poser but not actually being used when uploaded. Which makes me wonder if theres any way to make this work.

From: Abramelin Wolfe Im figuring yes its somthing to do with the body being moved in poser but not actually being used when uploaded. Which makes me wonder if theres any way to make this work. Maybe I wasnt clear. My animation DIDNT work in SL when I moved my figure in Poser using the BODY. But my animation DID work in SL when I moved my figure in Poser using the HIP. I would assume that if you continue to try and get your animation to work in SL via BODY movements in Poser that you will bang your head against the wall like I did. Do a simple test. Make a simple 3 frame animation. Frame 1 being default. Frame 2 being whatever. Then in frame 3 move the figure around by moving the HIP. Export to BVH and preview the animation in SL. It should work. Now do the same animation but in frame 3 move the figure via BODY. Export and preview. It shouldnt work. My point is if a simple 2 or 3 frame animation wont work by manipulating the body, then what will? I assume you understood me the first time but that Walk Designer uses BODY instead of HIP and if you cant get it to work via body then walk designer would be useless?

ok...sort of got it working. I made animation with walk path and walk designer and copy and pasted replaced the hip frames with the body. it sort of works, although the walk looks a bit funny now as hips are level. but closer than was

Animation in 3D (in General)
03-11-2005 09:01
Humans are bi-peds. As a rule, bi-ped animations START from the hips. There are a few animations that do not follow this generality but this isn't the point right now. Because most bi-ped animation originates from the hips, it is possible (and likely) that the entire skeleton is built with the hips being the "root" of the character animation. If the script is looking for the "hips" to send translation (movment) information to the animation overrider, and the "body" is the object with all the movement information, the character will appear to simply move in place. It sounds like this was the case. Hope this helps.
