Animation looping problem

I'm using Qavimator, trying to make a looping animation, but the animation always seems jerky when I upload it.

It's a 120 frame animation, the first 30 of which are "setting up" The first frame is the T-pose, the second frame is a keyframe with each of the affected body elements moved 1 degree.
Frame 31 begins motion in 1 direction (keyframe)
Frame 90 is the 'peak' of the motion, and begins the motion back (keyframe)
Frame 119 & 120 I made as a duplicate of frame 31 (both keyframes). (I did this on both frames to try and fix the jerking, but it didn't work.)
When I upload (priority 4, ease in, out .3, loop in 25%, loop out 100%), I get a weird jerk at the end when it loops. I don't understand why it's jerking.

Any thoughts?

Bugs?

Check out jira for that.
There are quite a few bugs about that topic and some of them should be solved in the next viewer. I'm not sure if they already included the fixes in the new release candidate, but you should check if your problem still exists in it.

Anyone willing to look at the AVM and see if I messed something up?

Well firstly, would you want frame 119 or 120 to be duplicates of 30, as then they'd play two or three times and you'd see a jerk or stutter every loop? ;)

Instead, try to make frame 121 the same as 30 and have your anim length 120...

That alone would fix your problem if you weren't using a loop in %, which I've never done. There is a jira issues about torso drift in that case?

Perhaps move your frame 30 to frame 1 and see if it plays smoothly without the % loop involved first after you put your final loop frame one after the length of your anim?

Oh! And what do you know? It seems there might be a fix coming for the torso drift issue in the next release according to Seraph Linden! :D http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2387

Qav torso drfit or something else?

I made my first SL animation in Qav today. Looks good in Qav, and except for a bit of jerk on the loops it looks good in the SL preview too.

On my av tho, after a few loops the av tilts off to one side and lifts up a bit, yet this action does not exist in the animation or even viewing it in SL preview.

In reading through here looking for answers I saw that there is something called torso drift that is a known problem. Is what I describe torso drift, and if not, what is my problem called and is there a way to fix it?

Torso Drift
09-29-2008 04:29
I don't have a solution to this, but I'd love it if someone finds one. I am having very annoying torso drift in anything I try to loop midway. It's very frustrating because the torso doesn't even move in this portion of the animation, yet it jerks each time it loops. With 100% loops I'm fine.

It seems like this problem has existed for quite a while. Have some found solutions? I'd think there would be more complaints about it. I'm on a Mac, and I'm wondering if that makes a difference. Would it help if I sent my animation files to a friend and had them try to upload them for me?

Sounds like you missed moving one of your joints, Chiron. Probably the abdomen. You have to move every joint a little or SL takes over. I often forget the abdomen and the collars. Check those first.

TY Cheree, I was not aware that I had to have all joints with movement or SL takes over! I had lots of joints NOT moving. It does work OK tho if I loop it at 100% like Vesta was indicating and an explanation why the diff still eludes me. Do you have a good explanation of why that is too Cheree?

Sorry, I was logged into the SL site under our organizational account without realizing it when I posted my reply to you Cheree. Sorry about any confusions that may have caused! :-)

The only thing I can surnise is that if the joint does not move within the loop when you use less than 100%, SL may take over again. Can I assume that you are uploading at Priority 4?

Yes, I am uploading at Priority 4 Cheree. TY for the response.

It seems SL is unable to properly handle the loops, and that may be part of the problem. The fact that they only give us a % value rather than a time increment or frame number to determine the loop start point tells me they probably do not have frame-exact accuracy for that.

This idea is supported as well by the fact that I have also been having probs with the loop starting point unless I leave a good amount of time (maybe 2 sec) where nothing is moving and then try to target the start of the loop into the middle of that section of the timeline that does not have any movements. Then I get a good loop, but still the torso drift prob.

Well I guess we will have to all just dream of the day when this gets fixed and works as it should!

If anyone knows of any jira issues posted on this where I can go vote for them let me know!

Mmhmms, there's been one for a long time, a quick search of anim loop brings it up, here it is! ;)

Supposedly fixed in an upcoming viewer...
