How long should an action take to play?

I've timed some RL actions such as kicking a ball, jumping, reaching down and picking something up and drinking from a bottle and found that these actions take *around* 2 seconds. An animation sequence for these actions would require *around* 60 frames.

I'd like to hear opinions on whether the RL time should be a good guideline or if there are rules-of-thumb to help adjust RL times for SL rendering. Of course lag, network and computer capabilities and the effect of draperies will always make this a bit messy - but I want to know if RL times are a good target for rendering times.

Thanks!

I don't think there are any rules of thumb that everyone follows for SL. Following RL time is as good a base as any for making animations. Lag and asset issues don't really affect animation speed but they do sometimes affect when the animation is played and so things will look out of sync. You can try to fix those with scripting.
