I am very new to SL so please excuse the questions, I just made my first animation and uploaded it. The animation has me moving to a certain pose, arms out and legs splayed and then looping at the end. When I run the animation it does what I want but when I walk my avatar stays frozen in the new position and skips along the ground. What I want is for my arms to stay in the new position but my legs to begin walking. Can I do this without making another custom animation? Thanks in advance.

SL only animates the body parts you actually touched. All other body parts take over their movement from the underlying animation. So be sure only to move the arms when you want the rest of your body keeping the old animation or pose.
Another thing are priorities. Moving a limb will only have an effect when your animation has a higher priority than the one underneath. You can try it yourself in the animation upload window. Upload your animation again, set preview to "Walking", start the loop and play with the priority value to see, what it changes. _____________________
