Poser is a program sold by Curious labs that allows you to make poser, create scenes and animate 3d avatars. For the most part, you create static pictures at almost photo realistic. However, this is incredibilty graphic and memory intensive and requiresd a 2 year old computer or younger.
I believe it is about $200 dollars. Oh, it has little to do with SL do to the fact that the meshs are different and the UV mapping is different. SL has poser compatable UV maps of the avatars out but you can use any pre created stuff. http://www.e-frontier.com/ Http://www.poserworld.com http://www.contentparadise.com http://www.daz3d.com |

It's available for $20 now from contentparadise.com. It's mainly of interest to SL for its ability to create avatar animations.

Oh, it has little to do with SL do to the fact that the meshs are different and the UV mapping is different. Instead of dismissing a program outright, one might benifit from simple understanding of different uses for programs and how they relate to SL. Whle the meshs are different, LL has been kind enough to give us files to download that help skin and clothing designers try out their work before uploading into SL. As this is in the animation section, poser is quite relevant, as you can see from other threads. The SL avatars themselves are based on poser models from version 2 (the current version is 6). When you first were able to create animations and upload them into SL the only program available was poser. Because it was the only one to export into the file format that SL can upload, BVH. It is rather expensive and not all that easy or fun to use. Nowadays, you have many more options. 2 different residents created programs that you can download for free that are for SL animations. Also, a newer release of Daz (free) allowed you to export out to BVH. While more and more newer animators are using the free programs, poser for some reason is still the standard. If you are looking into working on animations, I suggest the free ones you can find here to download. I hear they are a bit easier to learn. I personally use poser 5 because I have no reason to switch. _____________________

While more and more newer animators are using the free programs, poser for some reason is still the standard. The reasons are easy to see. Poser is a better tool for animating. Avimator is nice, and it is great to have a free animation tool, but Poser is just plain better. Just off the top of my head, two features I use a lot that Poser has but Avimator doesn't are IK and the Animation Palette. Of course, I haven't played with Avimator that much, so maybe it has both those things and I just didn't notice. In which case, my bad. Also, I would like to use this opportunity to express my annoyance at having bought Poser 4 for $40 a week before contentparadise released Poser 5 for free. @#%~@#$! _____________________
