How do I use bought animations?

I am new to this so I apologise if its a really basic and common bit of knowledge, but I don't know it. I have bought some animations, I can do the 'play in world' thing but how do I get them to operate automatically? for instance I bought a better walk, but the only way I can see to use it is to set off walking then activate it to play in world, its kind of clunky. How do I substitute this animation for the existing one? Nothing helpful I can find in the help files

You need to set up an animation override. It is a little weird the first time you're setting one up, but they're not really that hard to do. First, you have to get an animation overrider. I use zhao because it's easy to use and is done with buttons instead of chat commands. I got mine at the animation warehouse in no, but you can pick them up for free at most animation shops including my shop in citrago.
Once you have the animation overrider, you rez it on the ground somewhere. Edit it to get to the contents. Copy your animation into it by dragging it from your inventory to the contents. Double click the notecard in it (at first it'll probably be called untitled, but you can name it later if you want).
On the notecard you'll see a list of all of the different things your avitar does on it's own, with a blank line after each. So, if you want to change how you walk find the line where it says walk or walk 1 or whatever. On the blank link below that, type the exact name of the animation you dragged into it. Spell it right, get the capitalization and punctuation right, and don't add any blank lines after it.
Then save the note card and take the object back into your inventory. Then you have to wear it by right clicking on it in your inventory and saying wear. (if you're on a mac do whatever the mac handicap of right click is, or better yet, go buy a 2 button mouse)
Then you have to avtivate it. In zhao, you will see new buttons in the bottom right corner of your screen. Click load, then click the name of the notecard you edited (untitled unless you renamed it already). In other animation overriders you will need to say a chat command. Anyway, at this point you should be all set so you can walk around and see your new animation instead of the default one.
It is a lot to keep up with the first time, but it's easy to remember so as you add and change animations in it you will find that it gets much easier.

Franimation, Wet Ikon, ZHAO... All are free.

Pick an AO, any AO.

Tufif,

A great big 'Thank you' to you!! I'd just got the ZHAO yesterday and was trying all sorts of ways to list the animations on the notecard... except the right one of course..lol.

Thanks to your excellent run through, it's now working perfectly. Yay for search!!

Thanks again,

Rachel

PS. Oh... did I say 'Thanks'? ;)
