Unsightly, albeit functional.

Is there any way I can script the functions of a poserball into something more attractive, like a bracelet or something? Or is there a better way?

Generally speaking, pose ball is a matter of location. When you want someone to play animation there, you will place it there. Meanwhile, wearable gear is a matter of each avatar. They have the difference in the usage.

Corvus:

I am not entirely sure I understand your question. As Seagel said, the purpose of a pose ball is to provide a pose or animation at a specific location within the world. For example, a pose ball would be positioned above a chair to provide a seated pose or animation at that precise location. A bracelet, by its wearable nature, would provide a very different type of functionality from poseball.

That being said, yes, poses and animations can be placed into wearable items - and activated through a variety of means such as touch events, listeners, and timers. Dance bracelets and Chimera are good examples of this. Several people even make HUD attachments that provide a user with each one-click posing and animations. I sell such a device myself.

A good way to learn how to do this type of thing is to get yourself the Wet Ikon Animation Override. The script inside is open-source and freely viewable. You will find that it employes several different techniques for animating your avie, including both timer and voice activated controls.

Feel free to message me in-world and I would be happy to point you in the right direct. Good luck Corvus ... can't wait to hear about what you have made! :)

Of course, poses and animations can be placed inside furniture. That's great for some types of poses, like animated "sits". But people often want flexibility to move things around. And couples poses (or poses involving more than two people) often require adjustment so that the two avatars "fit." In such circumstances, poseballs are quite useful. Yes, people make furniture that permits adjustment of poseball position, but I still prefer to use poseballs. They're simple and easy to use. They can typically be hidden if need be.

Yup. I sell kneeling cushions where the pose-ball type script is embedded in the 1-prim cushion. This saves a prim, and removes the visible pose ball. But it also makes it more difficult to adjust the position to fit different Avatar heights. For example, if a chibi-sized or mini-sized avvie uses my cushions, they end up floating above it... That can be adjusted by tweaking the actual script inside the cushion. But if a pose ball was used, you could merely re-adjust the position and orientation of the ball, and the resulting pose moves with it.

Pose balls also allow you to place more than one seating position on a single prim. For example, if I had a simple tavern bench, and I wanted three seating positions, each with a different pose, I could use one prim for the seat of the bench, and three pose balls, or I could make the seat of the bench in three sections, each with an embedded pose script.

Another option for sit poses as that you could have the pose balls hidden, unless a touch event on the chair causes them to be visible...
