I can't seem to understand how to make the pose work correctly in SL. When I make the pose in Poser 6 I make a two frame animation with frame one being the default pose. Then I'll turn on a pose and work with it, meticulously aligning it with the floor only to find, when I upload it to sl, that it floats above the ground.

Any pose that results in your avie laying or kneeling or in some way moving closer to the ground will have issues. You will often find that your alignment with the ground will be differerent if you are wearing shoes or not, high heels being the worst. Very few in-world avies match the default avie's size. Since all animations are based on the hip position anything that changes the hips position will effect the position of the animation. The only good way to deal with this I have found is to have the ability to adjust the sit height in any pose scripts you are using.

I'm not making animations so much as still poses for photo shoots. These are just 2 frame animations. Anything you can help with after giving you that info? Sorry noobish on poser and SL |

Vectors

Hi!
If you are using a poseball, run edit mode, then sit on the ball and drag your avatar to the required position using the arrows. If you need the ball or scripted object, in a specific position and you find the pose is floating etc, try finding an editable poseball script and change the vector settings to align the pose to the position you want relevant to the ball or object position. Its sounds complicated but in the script I use the vectors are easily identifiable. Its just a matter of increasing the numbers to go one way and adding a minus in front to go the other. You need to experiment but the three sets of numbers are usually - backwards/ forward,left/right and up /down in that order (I think) You need to get off the ball or object to allow the script to reset, the re-sit on it to check the result. Dont set all the numbers to zero or you will find you cant sit down, and be carefull not to change the syntax or you'll get the annoying error message. Keep a spare copy of the script just incase. I'm no scripting Einstien but I managed to figure it out. Should be no problem for you. Bye xx |

Almost always sure to happen...

If I understand your problem it's sort of a built-in "feature" of SL.
Since AVs are different sizes, and poses are fixed in space -relative to the ball - you are likely to always see this. You can adjust your ball for you, but if someone else uses it, they will be miss-aligned because they are a different size. If you use an animation as a gesture, then it works correctly - I think - because the animation is relative to the position of the AV. not the pose ball. You might test this with your animation and see if it works. Welcome to one of the small headaches of animating. ![]() I've written some articles that may be of some help with your use of Poser and SL.: http://www.windyweather.net/wp/2007/08/27/using-poser-for-second-life/ comments welcome. - windy |
