Preview animation/attachment interaction?

I'm very new to SL, but having fun already! I'm interested in having my avatar play the flute. I've created a suitable animation in Avimator, and previewed it using the upload dialog - seems OK. And I've created a rudimentary prim flute which I can wear attached to my mouth. But is there any way to ensure that the animation will match up with the attachment location without spending $10 each iteration??

If Im understanding ya; just attach the flute to hand and position it with animation running :) If hand position simular should work fine for all them.

The problem is that the animation involves the hands moving up and down independently.... but I don't want the flute to move, it needs to stay attached to the mouth and the hands need to be correctly positioned wrt the flute.

Then hate to say it but I think ya going be spending a bit uploading and retesting till get a standard pose that can base others off of.

Use the SL preview while it is available to save your money. :D

Do you mean the preview that is part of the upload animation dialog? But that only shows a manequin, so I won't see the attachment I want to interact with. Also, by saying 'while it's available' are you implying that the preview may not be available in the future?

Ah! But isn't this environment designed for testing of features of the next release? Don't want to upset anyone by abusing it.

Tried the preview as I am excited to see what's coming anyway... but I can't log into it. Do I need another account, or is the preview not available to basic account holders?

First of all, testing is not only how are the features of the next release, but also how are the past features in the new environment. Uploading animations and knowing how they work are really good test for the next release, I believe. If the animation you adjusted in the preview grid were different from the current version, it would go without saying that you should report it. ;)

Second, sorry for that, but I'm not sure such a login issue. But according to this forum, it requires a new video driver, doesn't it? And the next release is coming at the corner. hmm... I have a bad premonition.... :(

i believe you have to be a certain "sl age" and been an account holder for so long before you can use it..the preview is based on a certain time frame back in time ( i believe) and if Youre avie wasnt created yet, it wont let You log in.

Yes, as was pointed out to me on another thread, it seems that the account database for the preview is a snapshot of the main database from some unknown time in the past. So no preview for me :-( Ah well, plenty of other stuff to learn before I play with the new features
