Foot position for stands

What is the secret to getting smooth transitions between stand animations? In my home-made stands, the av always has a foot sliding along the ground in between stands. It doesn't look natural, and I don't notice that happening with the default or purchased ones. Do all the stands have to start in the same, neutral position?

Not necessarily? But it can be easier? ;) If not, then your next pose in the AO cycle would want to start from where the previous one left off... :)

I believe you need to make your ease in and ease out a little longer. These are set during the upload process and by default are quite short so your avatar transitions rather quickly from one animation to the next. By making the ease in/out longer the avatar should smoothly transition between animations.

Actually longer ease will just mean the foot sliding happens over a longer period of time. ;)

To not have it slide, it needs to be animated to not slide, but rather move to a position that works with the next animation.

Thanks for pointing that out!

How about this? Try making the animation that starts with feet in neutral, then move the feet to their stance, then move them back to neutral. When uploading use the looping percentages to make just the middle part of the animation loop. So when the animation plays it first shows the feet move into the stance from neutral, holds the stance, and then plays the feet moving back to neutral when the animation has ended. I've never tried it so I can't tell if will work in an AO.

I think it would be hard to get looping to work with an AO. The ZHAO II gives you more control on the frequency of changing stands, but unless the timing was exact the transition to the next stand would be out of whack.

My DNA ao's loop seamlessly throughout the whole thing. You wouldn't know where each pose begins form the foot movement.

Its very easy.

How do you know the animations are looped? That is different from having a series of animations that transition seamlessly into each other. By looped, we were talking about checking the "loop" checkbox when the animation is uploaded, so that the same series of motions is repeated multiple times. What I was pointing out is that with a looped animation you couldn't ensure that the switch from one animation to the other would occur each time exactly at the right time to give a seamless transition.

I understand what youre saying. I know the animations in the DNA are looped because i made the thing. It doesn't matter when one animation begins and the next ends, the transition will still be seamless because i made the animations that way. As crystal already touched on, having the next animation start from where the previous ended, then making the transition to that next pose from that point creates this illusion. Obviously you will never be able to acheive this if you are one of those people who throw all your favourite poses into an AO and expect it to be smooth lol. If you took one of my poses out and replaced it with another, you'd bork up the transitions for sure.

I "stand" corrected and will try this out. :-)
