hi
i just tryed to re upload an animation i allready have in my inventory because i need it with higher priority.
got this message:
asset file is too large. all animation assets must be less than 60.000 bytes. please try again later.
it´s the exact same .bvh file.
anyone else haveing that problem?
was there a change i didnt notice?
60 kb is waaaaay to small. around 80 % of my animations are larger than 200 kb
thanks

It is not a new limit, and this kind of problem has happened before: /327/1e/191762/1.htmlNo answer back then if it was a transient error on the server side, or if something actually changed in the conversion process that makes the converted animation bigger than it used to be :/ Have you tried uploading with a slightly older or newer viewer?

I've loaded up 6 animations today and they were all much larger than 60kb bvh files. This was using the current viewer. Perhaps you experienced a transient problem or a file corruption.

The asset is in SL's own proprietary binary format, the BVH is discarded. So, BVH size won't be a very good guide to finding where things broke :/

I believe I have loaded up the longest and most complex animations done in SL - if there is anyone who wishes to claim differently, I shall be glad to see it - and I have never experienced this problem.
I should think that the relative bvh file size must be some sort of guide to the eventual compressed binary fle size though, and some sort of corruption could make it seem larger than it really is.

What was the source of your bvh file? What software did you use to create it or where did you get it from?
You can download bvh files from various web sources, but none of them are fully compatible with SL and they all have problems. If you created your animation, then go back to the original in whatever animation software you used and recreate your bvh file -then try to upload again.

got it uploaded now, but only after i retimed the animation from 30 to 20 fps and deleted 200 frames, not good for the quality but thats how things are when you want to do stuff in sl, it´s just not a reliable plattform...
thanks for trying to help =)

Has anyone take conclusions about why SL allows uploading an animation A (500frames, 30fps, 258kb) but an animation B (650frames, 24fps, 258kb) or an animation C (800frames, 15fps, 225kb) are not allowed?
three animation ara the same but with different paramethers
the most largest is 27 sec more or less...
Any theory?

It's the "different parameters" part. The converter built into the viewer steps through the numbers one by one, compares the difference in angle and rotation since the last frame, and adds a new keyframe to the SL-format only if there is enough change (it makes a little calculation on each). It's kind of a dumb translation, it does not look at the whole sequence at once, so the changes that are kept won't translate in an obvious way to the rates you used.
It would be nice if the viewer printed those sizes size out unconditionally, so that you could know how far over or under you were, and if changes on your end were making things better or worse.

So, if the last position is away from the first position, it could be a problem? to much difference?
I have exported writting the translation and the sl accepts 600kb, but the animation is really bad...

Well, too much difference from frame to frame, and hitting that difference repeatedly, will get you. That is the hard part, SL's "optimization" isn't very smart, so the same motion with a slightly different frame rate might settle into a more compact pattern even if the final result might not look very different :/

OK! I've read about BVHacker. it seems that prepare the animations to upload to SL..
Do you use it??

Is there a Jira or a Snowglobe patch for this?

They may not be any patch or even JIRA out there, I was just thinking out loud about the size readout, then thinking about how goofy it is that so many people are making keyframed animations, saving them out in this frame-by-frame format, only to have SL do a sloppy job of converting that back into keyframes. It would be nice if the whole conversion thing was revisited some day :/

Well, then, sounds like an opportunity for a new Jira. I don't know enough about animation to create one, but if you don't want to and think it's worthwhile I'll try.

From: Argent Stonecutter Well, then, sounds like an opportunity for a new Jira. I don't know enough about animation to create one, but if you don't want to and think it's worthwhile I'll try. Mostly it's the error message displayed that gets people confused. The preview window opens and the animation plays ok, you click upload and you just get a message saying: "Unable to upload......due to the following reason. Asset file is too large. Animation assets must be less than 60,000 bytes. Please try again later" Of course, you could try again later until Zindra freezes over - but it will make no difference. The only thing you can do is reduce the animation one frame at a time until it fits. I did raise a support ticket and moaned about it and was told that the support team would pass my comments on to development - if only the message gave the file size, and just said you need to make this animation smaller. EDIT - the error message for when the 30 second limit is exceeded is just as silly - you can even get a message telling you that you are unable to upload because animations must be no more than 30 seconds long and this animation is 30 seconds - please try later!
