Hi,
I spent an entire day making the absolute perfect idle animation for my avatar, but once i uploaded it, it appeared really jerky and crude. It looks like all the subtle secondary movements have been reduced to crude, linear, jerky movement and my avatars feet float around jerkily too (I spent hours on making sure the feet were rock-solid planted on the ground....)
This has nothing to do with avatar height - it appears equally crude on any type of avatar. I've tried lowering the framerate, and even that didn't help. Does SL simply chop out any kind of subtlety in movement? I seem to recall having seen much more fluent animations in SL...
I hope someone can offer insight!

SL optimizes animation data on upload, so yeah it chops out subtle movements. It can be tricky to figure out exactly what the threshold is for movements that'll work vs. movements that are optimized out. Plus there are just generally some idiosyncracies to the upload, so it can be tricky to adjust your animation to work right. For example, very occasionally I've found that the switching the gender of the figure in Poser can correct issues with hip placement (bizarre!)
There isn't anything specific I have to suggest, just that animations almost always involve trial and error, where you upload, see how it looks, tweak the animation, upload again, repeat. With experience you'll start to intuit what you need to do.

Ok, thank you very much. I'll have to try one with linear movements instead of ease in/out, perhaps then it will register the movements more directly.

It can be very frustrating, I know, when everthing looks right in Poser and then goes funny on upload. Do you test things out using the Beta Grid first?- I do mine there as I always end up uploading several times, and it does save a few L$. *sympathetic noises from Deira*
