Im trying to make a pose( 3 frames) using poser 4. I make the first frame the normal standing pose, then I make the next frame the pose im trying to make then I copy that pose onto the next frame. then i export it as a BVH motion, but when I go to upload it into SL when i look at it in the preview it doesnt do anything but stand there.
Can someone help me?
Thanks.....

while i am by no means a posing expert, just learning myself, i believe SL requires not one, but 30 frames per movement (per second?). Are you advancing the frames 30 ahead or just one? So you would have the default pose as frame 1, the change to your pose in frame 2, and the next change in frame, uh, 31 or 32. This could totally not be the answer- lol- so if someone with more experience than i knows the answer, heh heh, please feel free to correct me. But it is worth a shot until some does. or you can check out Ulrika's poser tutorial at www.Ulrikasheim.org:animations. YIPE! i used a name in a thread. *assumes the position and waits for forum police*

but wait- duh me- if you are just making a pose and not an animation, you would only need 2 frames. the default as 1 of 2 and your pose as 2 of 2. Then export as a BVH.

Chain, I'm brand spankin' new to poser4- and having the exact problem as you. I've tried everything..and I mean everything! I still cannot see the pose I created in the preview window once in SL. *waits patiently for a master poser-guru to give us the answers*

Miss Everett isn't stuck, surely? Hey maybe you should have someone do your poses for you! Someone to do your furniture justice =))
Make your poses 30 frames long with loop, first frame needs to be default position and key frames, then second frame is your pose but also needs to be key frames. The rest of the frames will pick up off that frame so you dont need to adjust them, and they dont need to be key frames either. Export as your BVH and WHACK!!! You're avis' doing all sort of crazy posing !! LOL.
I love animation...... it makes all six of my nipples tingley..... am i allowe to say that!?

Please upload your BVH file here. You won't be able to put down what you did missing here. Don't foreget to archive it as a zip file before uploading.

I'm not using poser 4, but with my poses, I only used two frames. frame 1 = default, frame 2 = your pose (key frame) and loop it when you upload it.. it worked for me using poser 6.. the only thing I could think of is that you're not looping it, and if it's only a frame or two, it goes so fast that you can't see it?? I dunno...

Hello Arianna, You are the first person who granted my wish! Thank you. Besides you upload your PZ3 files, too. Those are good. I'll help you as much as possible. 1.I made sure that your BVH files didn't work on SL. 2.I could load your PZ3 files and work fine on my Poser5. 3.I could load your BVH files but received some error messages, like "can't find some figure elements". 4.I saw an avatar whom I've never seen. He has hair! 5.BVH files which I loaded your PZ3 files and exported by my Poser5 works fine on SL. OK, Someone migth think that Poser4 has a bug with BVH exporter. But I don't think so. Poser5 was improved and just ignored some figure elements which had nothing to do with any motion when it exported as BVH motion files. I guess it is the cause of your problem that you don't use a proper figure for SL. I recomend you should use this avatar on your Poser or Poser2 figure, at least they are bold. The picture I upload here shows that the left side is your BVH file and the right side is mine even though they were loaded from the same PZ3 files. And also zip files are BVH files I exporeted on my Poser 5. I hope this helps you. Edit: I found some typo.

I uploaded the SL AV's as well and didnt get it to work either. Since I'm self learning, much of what u said seems like mumbo jumbo, but I get the point (I Think). I will continue to keep at it. Thanks for the help.

Hi Arianna,
Your BVH file includes some unnecessary informaitons, i.e hair and somethings. They came from the figure which you selected.
But sorry for not working well. There can be more another cause. Please use the SL AV and upload them again. We will be able to extract the cause.

Your a genius Seagel!! I got them to upload.
Heres the next question. Normally my AV stands with hands on hip, or almost leaning.
The animation I uploaded does what I want it to do, unless the AV itself while standing there decides to move its hands to its hips in which case the animation begins to distort itself.
I think it has to do with priorities but not sure. I am totally lost at what settings I should use in the preview before uploading the animation.

What I wanted to tell you was that upload your BVH and PZ3 files here again which had still trouble even though you used SL AV on your Poser. But I'm glad to hear you have succeeded to upload them in SL, anyway. From: someone The animation I uploaded does what I want it to do, unless the AV itself while standing there decides to move its hands to its hips in which case the animation begins to distort itself. hmm... I'm afraid I don't understand what you told. Is the problem point distoring? Which part of your AV was distorted? If it is the shoulder, did you make it move on Poser? I'll check your animation again after coming home.

Hello Arianna,
I still don't understand you. Is your next question for another new animation which I've never seen? Can you take a snapshot when it is distorted? Sorry, I have no clue.

You know when you are just standing around and your AV decides to move its hands on to the hip, or it begins to lean to one side.
When I upload the animation, say flapping my AV's wings, the wings flap until the AV all by itself decides to put its hands on its hips. When that happens, the flapping arms decide to bend inward as though they are trying to rest on the hips.

I had a copy of Poser 4 which I followed the instructions for making poses/animations for to the letter and it didn't work until I updated the program on the website.. http://www.e-frontier.com/filemanager/list/updates/0/0/0?sbss=300 After that it seemed to work fine Worth a shot if you haven't tried it already.

Hi, Arianna Aha, I got you. Sorry for my dense. I'm sure avatars sometimes change thier poses by the default implanted animations while just standing in world. Your animation lost the fight for existence to the default animations. From: someone I think it has to do with priorities but not sure. I am totally lost at what settings I should use in the preview before uploading the animation. You're right. If you let your animation overcome, set the priority to 4 which is the strongest number. Of course, you need upload it again to do that.
