Hi,

I am trying to import bvh files into sl and have hit a snag. I am trying to get a character to stand in a T-Stance for a couple of seconds. I have created a T-Stance on frame 1 and have rotated all joints 1 degree for frame 2 before setting the animation back to the T-stance on frame 3. When I upload the animation the lady in the demo window still is affected by standard animations even though the priority of my animation has been set to 4. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Phil

Could be your animation is looping over frames 2 and 3 and you are seeing the small degree of movement. Do you really need frame 3?

Alternatively - have you tried adjusting the in and out percentages? Tried setting one to 50%?

Hi,

I have created a T-Stance on frame 1

Phil

That'll be where youre going wrong.

Don't touch frame 1 at all.

Create your T-Stance in frame 2. Its this frame that needs each body part to be adjusted by atleast 1 degree.

Forget whatever youre trying to do with frame 3.

Put loop 'on' and you're done.

Purpose of frame 1

Hi All,

Thanks for the responses. I'm just trying to get things clear in my head.

Basically I thought that frame 1 was supposed to be a T-stance for SL to use as a reference point and thus wasn't used within the animation. Is this correct?

I am also of the understanding that frame 2 must have at least a 1 degree movement on every joint from frame 1 for sl to not chuck out the joint movement with it's optimiser. Is this also correct?

I have tried changing my animation to a 2 frame one where frame 2 is the T-stance position that I want and frame 1 is the Tstance but with all joints rotated 2 degrees. This still does not work. Even with priority set to 4 the animation is affected by underlying animations.

It would really help if there was some in depth info on how SL's optimiser works. Anyone know of something?

Cheers,

Phil

Frame 1 .... move nothing... just leave it at whatever your animation program has it.

Frame 2 .... move figure into the T stance and make sure all joints are moved by at least a degree.

No other frames. I believe that should work. There is a built in animation called 'turn_180' which is what most pose stands use. Maybe you could use that for what you are doing? And what program are you using to make these animations?

I have this happen when I've made a lot of adjustments. I work the way you do, my T is in frame one. I've never heard before, not that it is wrong, that you put the T in frame 2. what my causes usually are is small minute changes in the legs and I go through my anim frame by frame to smooth it out. WOrk with 15 fps and you have less issue with this and less frames to go through too. Good luck.
