I believe this is a bug with SL and it simply doesn't work right now.

I would love a confirmation or refutation, however.

Yep, been a bug for a while now. LL knows about it and they are 'working' on it.

How do you make a fist, then?

so, is there any way to have your av, say, make a fist?
if so, i can make a gesture
if not, i can't brush my av's teeth very effectively.:D

I don't believe that's what it's there for. I think that's just a demonstration of what your avatar would look like if it were doing those things, I don't believe it changes the animation so that your avatar IS doing them.

I don't really know a whole lot about animations or pose but I don't believe there's any way to animate faces or body parts (like hands to fist) beyond the few internal things already in SL that are triggered when you type specific things.

Like >:( makes a mad face, :P sticks out your tongue, etc.

I could be wrong, but I believe scripting something to play your animation and then take advantage of one of those preprogrammed cues is the only way.

How do you make a fist? the short answer is simply that you can't right now. I'd suggest applying the setting to the animation as you upload it.. just in case it is saving when it';s uploaded.. so that when LL fixes this relatively low-impact issue.. the animations will hopefully come online properly.

Most people just accept this when creating hand attachments, and either include an invisoprim to "clip away" the hand sticking out of the glove, or else they make the glove big enough that it doesn't matter.

Personally, since I can't give a reasonable hug to a person, or nod, or put my hand on their shoulder.. whether I have a fist or not at the time, is irrellevant to me.

My hope is that whenever it IS fixed, they will give us a way to retroactively edit our animations we already uploaded.

ok.... the animation uploaded is broken so you can't do any facial expressions or hand positions. I understand that a fix to this is on the back burner.... so in the meantime... is the ANY way around this for static poses? thank you to everyone who may respond
