Animation drift?

I'm hoping someone has a quick answer to this question. I'm having a problem where I craft an animation in Poser where the center of mass of the model shifts around...and when you import that into SL, the effect is decidedly odd.

For example, if I animate a pose where someone gets down on one knee in front of them. In poser, the back foot is planted and does not move. In SL, that back foot slides around, I assume because SL keep the center of mass of the avatar in place and animates around that somehow? It's like they are locked into place positionally. Is a specific joint considered the center of mass?

And yet I see all these dances in SL that obviously allow the avatar to drift all over the place.

What am I doing wrong?

Javier, as I understand it, you are probably moving the "body" in poser. You need to move the "hip" (don't animate "body" at all), because "hip" is the root for the BVH files - it is the "center of mass" you are thinking of.

That's my guess too, Javi. If you move the "body" (deliberately or accidentally), what you see in Poser won't match what you see in SL. I always scan the "key" interface to make absolutely sure I haven't accidentally moved the body instead of the hip. Incidentally, I frequently grab the "body" instead of the foot when I'm moving feet around.

The center of mass you are looking for is the hips.

To actually move the AV up, down, left and right is done with hip trans, be aware that a large amount of hip movement in poser = much less movement in SL, Im sure it was explained somewhere but Ive never seen a mathematical way to calculate it.

For instance, if you made a kneeling down animation in poser that looked perfect, then uploaded to SL, you would find it did move down but not at all far enough, such that the AV is left kneeling in mid air, body goes down, legs come up.

So far the only way I have ever dealt with this was to put the AV into the ground in poser(hip up/down), about down to their shoulders, I then upload and if still bad, I move some more and upload again.

I guess if I had a diciplined mind I might be able to work out the mathematical equation to apply to the poser hips to always get it right in SL, would sure save me a lot of time and L$ lol
