I'm researching using a Wiimote (remote for a Nintendo Wii) on my PC and the idea struck me that the wiimote could be used as an input device for rotations of joints for creating BVH (is that the right acronym?) animations. Could get quite silly if you had a wiimote at each joint/bone for the animation, but you get the general idea. What about a model poses for you and you move the wiimote into position along each bone and press a button. Repeat this for each bone (following a specific pattern, i.e. fore-arm, then upper arm, then...) and you've got one frame, rinse and repeat.
Thought I'd put this idea out there in case someone might be crazy enough to try it.

I once saw an article about a puppet for computer animation, but I can't find it anymore. It worked sort of like the telemetric input devices for digital puppetry at Henson's studio. ALSO: While looking that up for my response to this post I found this: http://machin-x.blogspot.com/2007/06/nintendo-to-launch-indie-game.htmlsweet! Awesome news, and astonishingly relevant to this thread. I develop indie games, so this is very cool.

The problem is that the wiimote detects motion, not absolute position. So you could make it detect that joint A had moved so fast, for so long, on such and such a vector, but that would only be accurate if it started in the same position as the joint.
