is there any kind of product that makes it possible adjust some sort of mannequin to the exact same size as an avatr then save this data and upload to Poser so that the poser model will be the same size? I had a look at U-pose but thats more for making anims in world not for this purpose but I liked the way I could size my avatar with it.

My understanding is that there is no SIZE info in the BVH file. Gearsawe explained that to me in a question about using U-Poser to export to blender.

...that leaves me wondering about location information... :confused:

I've been operating under the assumption that the avatar figures made available to use for animating programs have a height equivalent to a shape with all height features set to '50' (a "default" shape). And by all height features, I mean everything that affects height, like various limb sizes.

(I would love to have any sort of confirmation that it's an accurate assumption.)

Starting with that assumption, I can make some fairly good guesses when it comes to scaling the avatar figure in Poser to make an avatar shape in Second Life. Measure your default avatar shape in Second Life with prim rulers (don't use the "find your height" script to guess height). Find percentage comparisons between your default avatar shape and your customized avatar shape. Then apply the percentages to the scaling in Poser, or the animating program you use.

It works fairly well for me, certainly better than blind guesses.

But then again I try not to stress too much over animations that are less-than-perfectly-accurate. There's a point where the diminishing marginal returns of increased accuracy just aren't worthwhile.
