Bend over backwards

I'm definitely an animating newbie. I am trying to make a simple animation, using Poser 6 and the SL female avatar, that has the avatar doing a back bend and then setting up a loop where she moves slightly backward and forward. To keep this "G"-rated we won't go into why she moves that way. ~chuckles~

Anyway, I start off with the SL female avatar in the "T" position, the frame counter on frame 2, and then I begin bending, pulling and reshaping all the necessary body parts to get the avatar in the backbend position. So far so good.

When I set the scene on frame 10, when I want to pull the hips forward a bit, having set IK for both hands and feet, all appears to be in order in the animation viewer. A new keyframe for hips is defined at frame 10 with "tween" frames designated between frames 2 and 10.

When I single step through frames 2 through 10 the whole avatar moves, as if starting below the ground and does some crazy gyrations to end up in the keyframe #10 position. In theory, the avatar should just shift slightly back and forth, while remaining in the backbend position.

I know there's bound to be some initial setting I forget to set, or maybe I need to do some tweaking using graph view but I've been messing with this for over a week now and I'm stumped and getting quite frustrated. Any help anyone could provide in explaining what I'm doing wrong would be great appreciated. Thank you!

Use the Animation Palette and set all keyframes in frame 2 to Break Spline.

Great! Thank you. I see the button, but what's a spline?

That's a curved line; it refers to the animation curves. In the Animation Palette, see the button with the red line? Click that to see the animation curves.
