I created an object that I want my av to grasp when it's attached. I worked up a script to trigger an animation when it's attached, but I looked all over the place and I couldn't find any animation that makes my avatar clench its fist. Is it even possible to make animations that change the hands like that? Do any grasping or holding animations exist?

We do have the ability to specify when we import a pose that the hands are spread, relaxed, or in a fist (there are a few other options as well). It would be great, except for some odd reason it doesn't stick - it will start out that way, then the hands will spread on their own, so it looks odd. If anyone has a solution for it, I would love to know one.

I think it's the same as with the facial expressions - you get the little bit at the beginning, and then your avatar will slide back to the 'relaxed' positions for hands and expression. Mreh.

Hello, I will try to shine as much light as I can muster on this. lol
The hands and facial movements are not considered animations but rather morphs. Sadly morphs are not yet supported. If you make animations DO NOT move the fingers! The wrist is fair game but the hand needs to remain in its default location. There are options when you upload your animation/pose but they seem to not function correctly as mentioned. I will see if I can find something I read about the topic in the town hall and post it in a bit. Sorry there isn't a fix for you atm.

hey the question was by Cristiano, so TY for asking!
You: Cristiano Midnight: I would like to ask about planned technical improvements for animations in SL - will we get correct poser models and more advanced bone support? Cory Linden: Cristiano: what do you mean by "correct poser models"? Cory Linden: I know that Stephen is working to give out a better poser model real soon now. Going forward on animation, we want to first allow morph based animations (such as hand poses and expressions) to be included in the animation. Longer term is still open. Cory Linden: Ah, Cristiano meant reference poser models and yes, Stephen is working on releasing those

Ok, so the answer is that, for now, there's no way to make my av actually look like she's holding onto an object, aside from a little springy action at the start (I've seen that in anims before). Grr.

adding animations

You might could try playing the gun holding animation along with your animation, just make sure you move all the arm bits and upload your animation as a 4, so it overrides the arm but the hand should stay fisted.
I don't think they looped the hand and face stuff that we have at all.

Grr. Try Gestures... it seems many people forget these even exist. I am sure someone would be able to help you with the scripting with the hand gesture.. I am thinking its the "hold gun".. something like that.

It was my impression that gestures were simply grouped sequences of animations, sounds, and text. I did try triggering the gun-holding animation (hold_gun_r) from my object, but it just crooked my av's hand in front of her, open-palmed.

glitches

Hmm that's kinda funky.. it could just be a graphical glitch though.. I have seen it a few times. Go into the welcome area and ask around and see if anyone else sees your hand open.
