Depending on the store, it is between $80 and $100. Here is a link to PROVANTAGE, where it is $80.87. That is not an affiliate link or anything like that, they just usually have the best prices for this kind of software. Also, you can use Blender (free) to make animations, but there is a cumbersome conversion process that is best left to programming geniuses. And if you are one of those, you can afford $80! Search for blender on the forums here for topics about that. _____________________

What is the difference between poser 5 and poser artist?
btw you can make bvvh motion files by hand in a text editor. But I would never want to try it. |

Poser Artist is Poser 4, sort of renamed. I have not used Poser 5, so I can't say if it's any better, but I have had zero problems using Poser Artist. |

other poser options

You can use blender somehow.. You need someone to give you a skeleton and I have no clue how to work it, just know it's possible.
LifeForms is supposed to be workable to but it's twice as much as Poser. They have a dance forms version though that I wouldn't mind getting my hands on. Poser Artist is what they changed the name of poser 4 to when curious labs bought it from meta creations, the only difference is a patch you download from the curious labs website. If you can find an old, cheap copy of metacreations poser 4 grab it and the download and you're set. |

Is it possible to use the original Poser 4 for anims? I've gone through the Poser 5 tutorial with it, but it doesn't work right...can't seem to get anything working from Poser 4.

Did you try the advice from Zalandria Zaius above about getting the patch? The tutorial does work for Poser Artist, so I would imagine it would work in 4. Are you using the Poser 2 figure? Some people don't have those and need to download them. I believer they are on the same site as the tutorial. Also, a couple of the menu items are in a slightly different configuration. If you check each menu at the top, you should find the items referred to in the tutorial. _____________________

If you are interested in Poser Artist or Poser 5 for $50 off, check this thread posted by Pete Fats. The offer is good until December 27!

I think poser 5 support a few things that poser 4 doesn't. Like multiple models at ones, hair tools, better clothing. I wish I had multiple models it make couple animations easer to produce.

Poser 4 does support multiple models. Even Poser (before there were numbers) did.
![]() To get them, open the Figures palette, click on whichever Poser 2 figure you want (to select it,) and then click on the double check mark at the bottom of the palette. The second figure will appear, in exactly the same space as the current one. (So, if it's the same figure, and you haven't Posed either one, you probably won't see it.) To use it as a reference for Posing the first figure, make sure that Figure 2 is selected (look at the lower left, below the Perspective window.) Then go to Figure > Use Inverse Kinematics menu, and disable all of that. Finally, using the Translation tool, grab Figure 2 by the hips, and drag it away from the first figure. After that, you can pose it as you normally would. The things that Poser 5 added are more setup "rooms," tools for hair and cloth, changes in the rendering engine, different default models - a bunch of stuff that you can't use in Second Life anyway! ![]() So, if you want the program just to make animations for SL, get 4 (or 3, or 2!) It's simpler, and easier to use, IMHO. Hope this helps! Robin (Sojourner) Wood |

Also, be sure not to download it from usenet. While it is true you should be able to find it with little problem and with a premium news service like easynews.com it will be a fast download, you shouldn't do it becuase it would be considered piracy.
And of course I don't advocate piracy. So be sure not to check that out ![]() -AP |

painting on poser 5 model

I don't think it is, but not sure.. I do know however that the poser skins/clothing are nowhere near the same layout as the SL ones. It is possible to make the poser stuff fit onto the SL templates but you will spend alot of time, cutting , pasting and smudging edges.
