I know my question doesnt belong here.. However in all animations and so forth I Dont really see a category for any sound clip questions.
Maybe we can make a thread just for that??
Its not that I dont appreciate what Acoutist Alchemy does as far as sound clips go.. Its just the only they have I dont like!
I want to upload my own sound clip...

here is my question

I am trying to upload a nice whales and dolphins sounds clip. its pretty short.. altho not sure how long it is..
Take that back its exactly 5 second long lol
the other one I have is a .AU type sound file.. its 12 sec long..
I read it has to be 10 sec long or shorter.. so the first one should be all good because its a .wav file correct?
I got this error message:

file doesnt appear to be a supported sample rate ( must be 44.1k)

ehhhhhhh yeah..... that means???

SL requires WAV files less than 10 seconds as you noted, but they must also be 16-bit with a 44.1k sample rate. Lots of WAV files you'll find are encoded at a different sample rate such as 22.05k or 48k. There are plenty of free converter utilities that can make those SL-compatible though.

dbpoweramp is a nice free (for the basic version) one.

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm

If you want to do things like cut off segments of a sound (to make your 12 second .AU shorter, for example), mix sounds together, or do volume adjustments and such, Audacity is free and good.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Hope that helps a bit.

you can't read AND write on the same file at the same time of course.

windows users can convert files to the proper encoding frequency using Sndrec32.exe ...pretty painless, open, drop the file on it, file -> properties -> select playback formats, press "convert now", choose "44.100 khz, 16bit" and press "ok" if it was stero choose sterero, if mono choose mono... I think SL wil accept either

oh and the box above 44.1 should be PCM

Or if you want to try again with dbpoweramp, tell it to put the new file in a different folder before clicking the "convert" button.
