Hi

I wondered if there is any way to create hand animations in SL. From what I understand it's not possible individually animate the fingers and thumbs. For example, if i wanted to have an animation with the fingers closed in a fist with the thumb pointing up so i could have a "Thumbs Up" animation. Is there a way to do that?

If it's not possible to do it by moving the fingers and thumb, is there a way to create a "glove" that wound have the required thumbs up shape to wear on a normal hand?

If it sound's like I'm new to this you are absolutely correct!

Any suggestions would be very helpful - even negative ones so i know what's possible and what isn't!

Thanks!

Reef.

When you import an animation you have a choice of hand positions (i.e., fist, open, spread...). That is it AFAIK.

No, there is no way to do that, since it's not one of the hand position options when you upload, and there is currently no way to create custom ones.

Question, along the same lines:

It seems to me that, yes you can set the hand into a certain pose in the drop-down, but, in my experience, this isn't permanent. It'll stay in that position for a while, then change to another pose.

Anyone else experienced this?

Where there's smoke, there isn't always fire. It might just be a particle display. ;-)

Yes, it happens with facial expressions as well. I think that since hand poses and facial expressions seem to be done by basically playing another, special animation on top of it, lag, or starting another animation can cause one or both to revert to the default while the animation plays. Then, even when the other animation stops, the original hand pose / expression does not start again.

It seems to happen most often when you use both on one animation, though I think facial expressions may to be looped. The emote scripts I've looked at all seem to work by re-starting the facial expression animation every so often, before it finishes.
