I'm a bit of a newbie but I couldn't find this in search.
When I upload my animations I cannot seem to see the changes in the hand and facial expressions in the upload previewer. Does anyone know why this might be?
Also I want to try to upload things on the Beta test grid but every time I'm unable to login, does anyone know if u need an alternative account or something?
Thanks

SL doesn't recognize facial expressians and finger movements. You're stuck with the facial and hand options you find in the upload dialog.

As Dylan says - SL does not acccept any morphing of fingers, toes or faces.
Because you are a fairly new account, you probably do not exist on Beta yet. The Beta Test Grid is a copy of a small part of the main grid taken some time ago. The next time it is refreshed, your account will be there.

Thanks for the replies although I meant the hand and facial expressions inside the viewer/ preview, when I change to a fist say from relaxed hand or angry for face the preview character doesn't change, I wasn't referring to facial or hand animations done in an external program.

Ah - now the face and hand options don't work correctly. There is a long standing JIRA entry for a solution - sorry, can't find the link, but there are other threads about it in the forum.

I recall that the preview/upload window doesn't show those too well, if at all. The face does show up in the final animation when played in-world but it only lasts a few seconds at the beginning of your animation. The hands... well... they don't really behave well at all.

I spent the better part of a day and 15 uploads trying to get the facial animation to work, even for the brief couple seconds, recently. I was never able to get it to show. Is there some magical trick to make it work? I was under the impression it's now totally broken.

This has annoyed me greatly. A friend of mine wants my bed but wanted a few personal poses which includes the erotic kind so I decided to make my own (free solo poses are practically impossible to find) - but she tells me "I look so bored, why can't you make my face look a bit more intense" but no matter how many times I upload and no matter how many times I pick different expressions, the animation makes the face look static. Would there be a trick? Maybe add a seperate animation for the face? A kind of AO? But to be put in the same bed.

Hey, maybe you or your gf need one but she doesn't . I wouldn't mind if I knew that when the bug is fixed, it will work correctly, but I worry about uploading all the poses, add it to furniture and sell it only to discover that I need to upload them all over again to make the expressions work.

To have something better than just the expression showing briefly at the start of the animation, it has to be scripted I'm afraid...

Erk I'm not that good at scripting - is there a poseball script that can be added to a poseball to let the user have the right expression? I'd be more than willing to pay for such a script as long as it works.

But even the brief facial animation no longer works. Or can you elaborate on how it's done? Setting an expression at upload does nothing. Do you have to put some special value for Lead in or something? I'm serious about it not working.

From: Darien Caldwell But even the brief facial animation no longer works. /me sighs, mmhmm Darien, I'm on the beta grid right now and it's borked again, doesn't show in preview or after uploading it. I know there was a fix last autumn iirc, but I don't see a Jira for this now, do you know of one or want to make a new one we can vote on? It was fixed pretty quickly last time this happened. Icarus, yes, I can do that for you if the scripts are mod (or replaceable), have done it for a sleeping expression for a bed designer before.

Well I didn't create a JIRA because I wasn't sure if it was a bug or if I was just an idiot. So let me start one: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5587

I believe that hand positions never worked unless sitting, or something like that. I use fists for poses holding guitars, and the script in the guitar has to periodically run the fist anim, IIRC.
For facial expressions, you can do the same trick: run the expression animation periodically (2 to 4 times per second, IIRC). I do this in MLPV2, to provide expressions for the poses.
Next time I'm ingame I can lift some code if you'd like it.

Yes, running the animations by script is possible. but if the animations at upload don't work, they should either fix it or remove the option. Truthfully the usefulness of the facial animation at upload is practically nil, but I did want it for a weapon I am scripting. I don't particularly want to add yet another script for what amounts to a throwaway effect.
