So I finished and uploaded my first animation ... a fairly simple one where the avatar holds a pan flute, turns her head to play it and makes a slight swaying movement.
It looks fine in Poser (4), but when I test it in SL, there are a few glitches. First, the feet aren't stationary on the ground as they are supposed to, but shuffling around. Second, the hands don't stay in their positions, but change, it seems, when the avatar usually would change to another standing position. (I did set the priority to 4).
Obviously it is possible to avoid these glitches ... you see animations everywhere that don't suffer from them. But how do I do that?
Thanks -- Dylan

The body parts that are having these problems, did you move them in frame 2 in poser? Your animation file is set to priority 4, but any body parts that don't move won't have a priority at all.

I moved one of the feet and both hands in frame 1, I think.

This may not be the correct way and I am sure there is probably an easier way but this is how I do it and it works for me:
Leave frame 1 the way it is. In frame 2 move EVERYTHING just a little bit. In frame 3 put everything back to zero and save it. Start all new animations with the saved file and start your animation on frame 3.
Whatever doesn't get moved in frame 2 will not move or will move incorrectly in the rest of the animation.
