Hey all you SLanimators, We've posted some files you might find useful in the downloads area: https://secondlife.com/downloads/avatar.phpIf you use Poser 4 or 5 to create animations for use in SL there are a couple custom Poser characters provided. BVH animations you create and export from Poser using these characters should import into SL with better accuracy than the standard Poser figures. The bone names and hierarchy are identical to the SL avatar's, and the proportions match the default base avatar skeleton. Additionally, UV texture coordinates and texture groups match SL's avatar so you can test your custom SL avatar textures directly in Poser rather than having to log in to Second Life. Other OBJ model and BVH skelton files are also provided to allow similar animation and texture "mannequins" to be recreated in other 3D modeling and animation tools. (This is an exercise best left to advanced users of those other 3D apps.) Thanks to Cristiano Midnight for providing feedback on earlier versions of these files. Keep on animating! -Xenon Linden EDIT: Got rid of annoying texture references in the Poser figures and added the skirt mesh as separate .obj and Poser prop files. Download the new zip! (same location, same name) -Xenon

Oh great! They're out! All animators should know about this, both to facilitate their ease of creation and improve the quality of their work!

Hurray! I was only the other day trying to reverse engineer the avatar files. This is making my texturing life already a hell of a lot easier. -Adam

Can anyone tell me about the file (lowerbody_bumps_WORK.psd) Poser 5 can't find when loading the SL Avatar?
Thanks,

Either ignore it or re-download. Xenon updated the downloadable to get rid of those references.
(I haven't *actually* re-downloaded myself to check... I just ignore it)

Ok, after testing a bit with the "new official SL Poser figure", I've noticed a few problems, but this may be just me being plain silly... Click on the right foot and the left foot, and look at the Parameter Dials. Is it just me, or are they on different places? (ie. left foot has x/y/zTran at the bottom, right foot has them at the top!) This has made my first test anims utter failures, when I, expecting all body parts to have the same sequence of dials, suddenly changed the "scale" instead of the "trans" of my feet Actually, I wonder why we need (for SL at least) any "scale" dials at all. I guess it's pretty safe to leave them at 100% and minimum/maximum at 100% as well... Last, but not least. When uploading an anim done with the new mannequin, I get the "awfully twisted collar syndrome", ie. it looks like someone has twisted my avatar's arms several times and they're "protruding" from the shoulder/collar connection in a most unnatural way. I believe that a reason for this are the defaults for the collars and shoulders when starting the anims. When using a "standard" Poser 2 figure, I never touched the collars, and just played around with the shoulders. But this mannequin seems to dislike the "default" collar settings Any thoughts on this? Somehow, I think that the professional animators reading this post will have a smile on their lips, shake their heads slowly, and ask: "Gwyn, have you checked 'Motion untwisting on separate body parts'?" or something obscurely-worded like that. And I'll blush, go: "Oh. No, I didn't have that on. Thanks" And thanks in advance
