I was in the process of subdividing 16m2 lots from my 8092m2 lot. I guess I accidentally set the big lot for sell and it was purchased instantly. 7900+ m2 for L$1500!
I've contacted the purchaser but have not heard back from them yet. I'll update this post when I do.
This must be a common occurrence because the purchaser's info says something to the effect of "If you didn't mean to sell you land please contact us and we will work with you to remedy the situation." Of course, I cynically suspect that "remedy" means they will sell it back to me for just under market value.
Anyone else have this problem? What can be done to end this sort of mistake? If this cannot be stopped then I believe buying land in SL is not worth the risk.

I guess the first question comes to mind, why were you subdividing 16sqm lots? Are you looking to be selling adfarm spots for L$1500 each or something? Second, unless you encountered a bug, you had to go through several dialogs to put the land up for sale. Double-check, triple-check, and check again BEFORE you press that "Sell" button. Otherwise, you will pay through the nose to get it back. Yes, it happens a lot, because there are people out there who use automated purchasing systems or "bots" to buy any land which is posted for sale at a good price. They catch mistakes, too, to the consternation of many, but you put the land up for sale; they just completed the sales contract you initiated and published, as far as they and Linden Lab are concerned. From: someone Anyone else have this problem? What can be done to end this sort of mistake? If this cannot be stopped then I believe buying land in SL is not worth the risk. Yes, it happens quite frequently. The best solution? Prevention; don't make the mistake in the first place. You have to mitigate the risks in doing anything financial; in SL or RL. Dot your Is and cross your Ts, and you (most likely) won't get bitten.

And to save some bile tinged posts, there is nothing LL will do if this person does not do "The Right Thing". The forum is littered with the remains of threads like this that ended very badly.

Dead Threads tell no tales. ------------- This sounds like poetic justice - a would be Ad farmer profiteer gets his land gobbled up by a landbot.

Very strange replies

Ad farmer? Who said I was an ad farmer? I didn't tell you WHY I was subdividing, just that I was. I also figured out what happened, but why should I tell you?
Telarus, you're a rude bastard. You are going to give ME buyer beware lessons? F.O.

Telarus, you're a rude bastard. You are going to give ME buyer beware lessons? F.O. No, those types of replies are the status quo here... now, to your situation... You're out your land... you gave it away essentially. There's a final warning window, stating all the terms (size of the lot, price, objects included (or not), and.. the statement that all sales are final. Aside from the fact that the buyer used a bot to purchase it, you can't blame the buyer, or expect him to hand it back over to you because you made a mistake. It's entirely possible that someone who was ethical would understand your mistake, and return the land to you for the same price... but dont expect people who use land bots to be ethical... sorry, you loose in this situation. Let it be a lesson to you when setting land for sale.. I bet you don't get so in a rush from here on out.

Be sure to send a notecard with the transaction information of the land sell (check the Transactions part of your account information at the SL home page) to the account that bought the land... they may well get slammed with IMs and not see your message.
Also... I ask this not in an accusatory way but really because I'm just curious. If you weren't pricing 16m lots at L$1500 for ad farms, what were you selling them for? I thought that's all they were good for.

It happened to me just like that, I got lazy, with no one in sight I partitioned off 64m2 of my group deeded land and just sold it to anyone for $1L.
The moment I pressed sale, 3 people appeared out of nowhere, and one bought the small parcel before I even realized what was happening. And I mean, the avatars, appeared the instant the land went for sale.
One thing that puzzled me was the speed at which all of this happened. With grid issues, item not rezzing/returning to inventory that particular day, its almost as if someone had a direct connection to LL, or worse.
Anyway, people who showed up seemed to all work for the same group (which didn't show in their profiles, but got the info from the land). The owners were 2 "brothers", who, despite being online, did not return my e-mails.
So yes, in the end chatting up the employee of the above land company saved the day.
Anyway, hope you get your plot back.

For information about transfering land see: /327/3d/174599/1.htmlI'm locking this because of the trolling and it's off-topic for this forum. From: Brenda Connolly Dead Threads...sounds like a good name for a Vamp Clothing Shop..... It does.
