Take Your Traffic With You- Just an idea

What if anyone and everyone could take their traffic with them.
What do i mean.....

Imagine, you are a hardworking noob bouncing around your favorite sim and you realize you have been there for 5 hours- but you had fun and the sim was sweet!

You decided to show your appreciation for the kewel build by depositing your traffic points on the parcel where you had all that fun. And you can only hold traffic points for 1 week so you cant just bank up a lot of them anyways.

5 hours only counts as 1 point of traffic but this place was really nice so now the place where you had fun gets your traffic point which earns you 10 bucks because the little box that allows the owner to advertise the land as a buisness and as a public place will pay for any traffic money meaning the land owner only pays for traffic points they actually got.

The most popular section would be randomized so the top 25 highest traffic places would change every time they are looked at and thus would never be the same.

Since the amount of traffic cashed in at any one place is limited a parcel with traffic of 200 which could be the maximum would no longer be able to pay out traffic money once the max is reached.

Meaning that when the parcel hits 200 it would prompt the person that the parcel has met its maximum and cannot pay out any traffic money.

This would mean that if there is nothing interesting to do the sim/parcel/buisness/mall would simply be empty meaning all there was to do there was earn traffic money

This would give the busness owner an incentive to have a fun place to hang out at since they can not know for sure if the people who visit them would actually give the traffic points to their land since the traffic payments dont get deducted right away- they come out over time like advertisment deductions do.

Traffic could become something to earn and enjoy- Camping pads may not go away but it would free many people to go where they want to go- have the fun they want to have and since the payback isnt too large it would be better than camping since you can move around and talk and actually have fun.

And once the cap is met- you find out if your traffic is true or just empty- people could probably try to game the system but thats always gonna be there so no one person can earn more than 200 traffic points i guess

They would just program 100 bots to keep depositing the traffic to their land :/

I remember hearing about something called dwell money or something like that but back then i didnt have any land so it was pretty much over by the time i found out about it i guess

and as far as bots go- if someone just boosted their numbers by bots - once the high is reached there would be nobody using resources on the dead sim because it was a boring place thats only on top because the owner was fiddling with the numbers.

so far if we let bots and bad behaviour stop us from doing things nothing will ever get done and we lose all the good things like first land

Wrap up

If the people inworld behaved as sweet and cuddly as they do on the forum I would have closed my account long ago, lol

I just realized that this could have been in the other thread but i guess im a noob at heart and put it in the wrong place, thus angering the gods :p

I simply thought that since many people seem to have a wiggle fit over camping that there should be some other way brought up at the town hall meeting to help noobies who come here all alone and broke like a christmas tree in january,
its sad, very very sad :( <---/me making sad face

dont yall remember running around in a white shirt with noobie hair dancing on some pad wondering "what the heck am i doing"

so far this post has not sparked any discussion or solutions other than scrapping the whole thing which was done with first land and that was a mistake in my opinion since no matter how many people tried to cheat the system, new players still had an actual incentive to do the membership thing.

Every time some program is in place to help new people get started- the more experienced try to take advantage and the solution posed by those who usually have already experienced the benefit of the program ends up being

- kill the whole thing-

which is nuts because the fully invested aren't going anywhere and thus can be noodled around with, LL has noodled us plenty and i would not have minded being noodled some more to keep first land.

Second Life is pretty much like a small planet and people can come to visit or come to stay when the little people get treated like poo everybody loses, and we all know what happens when the big corporate types take an interest in this place (they want to pick our brains and show us the ads we aren't seeing since we aren't watching tv )

I wish i had known that the forums attract such acidic, fatalistic and depressing comments, this may be the reason why someone has to already be a resident to even see the comment forums lol

Everyone have a good night and try to lighten up, mistakes happen

And please note that my comments are not directed at anyone in particular and may not reflect your experience within SL.... Effy LLC.

I'm very glad you are still here, I have purchased a number of beautiful builds from you and have never "camped" at your place. If I am your typical customer, then perhaps I can bring you some assurance that your traffic is for real.

They do, yes. But they also attract some darned nice people, too. In fact, a lot more of those than the acidic ones.

Stick around, Effy. And come over to the Forum Cartel Hangout in Allana. You'll be welcome, and welcomed.

Search is long over-due for simply having traffic removed. Calculating and updating traffic all the time is additional work whose only purpose now is to give bot-runners an advantage.
The new idea of increasing a parcel's relevance by "links" is also a system just waiting to be gamed.

Really what we need to do is take advantage of Google's ability to assess the informational content of a description. Give us more space for descriptions, and let it rate parcels by relevance, that is; the more information it seems to give without keyword spamming, the higher its ranking will be.

Some system for example whereby using related words increases relevance (such as; chair and couch) for those words. But a balance is struck between related and unrelated words. For example, if someone wants to dominate the search "chair" they might think to just list every possible word for chair they can find, however this would REDUCE their relevance. However, if someone refers to things sensibly, but also includes what appears to be information (unrelated words, or common information words such as "features";), then it will have a very high relevance.

I believe the Google search system is already capable of this, as it automatically determines relevance of words to one another by user's search queries and so-on.

Traffic and linking have no place in SL, and are just asking for abuse by bots and/or fake accounts. Furthermore, all they do is needlessly punish new, small businesses.
