when I launch it here, it detects that it is older then the regualr viewer, and reports that there is an update available.. selecing to accept it reinstalls the regualar viewer, and prompts it to start. cancelling that update launches firstlook as usual.. but it's a pita do do it every single time.
How about having firstlook check to see if there is a newer firstlook viewer instead?

Well, as of now there is no FIrstlook viewer. Just hit cancel when it prompts you to update, you'll still log in as usual without having to update. However, the current viewer is essentially the latest Firstlook as the features being tested in Firstlook are now in the main viewer.
