Voice Chat Not working?

I have a friend that installed first look, enabled it, has a mic that can record in sound recorder and everything. But He cannot hear anything that we say or anything like that. He can hear himself in his headset tho. The sim has voice enabled, He just cant hear us, and we cant hear him. Any tips?

If he's not showing up on the active speakers list you can have him try www.testmyvoip.com to see if it'll work on there. Otherwise, voice has been a little spotty today, it may just not be connecting properly to the channel.

If he's using Windows XP & using the built-in Firewall, have him check to see if it's being let thru. It'd be under the Exceptions tab, listed as SLVoice, SLVoice Agent, or Vivox-GW

If he/she has more than one PC like I do, they may want to check the headphones are plugged into the right PC ... yep you guess it... I speak by experience, spent a 'bit' of time ripping out programmes and hardware, delving into settings etc.... then .... opps

He does not have Windows Firewall running, He even turned off ZoneAlarm.
The process SLVoice.exe is running, but he cannot hear US, nor we cant hear him at all.

ALso, he fails the www.testmyvoip.com test.

If he is using a router, it may not be allowing the voice 'port' to operate in both directions. Also he should check any exceptions in IE security tab, check his soundcard controlling application to make sure he isn't using DirectX or GUI default, for sound out, but his actual soundboard. He may also need to check that he has mic boost set, as some applications consider too low a signal as a muted signal. If he has a mic port in the front of his PC as well as the back, that he has selected this as the input (might be shown as line-in 2). Has he got a mute button/function on the mic? Has he set mute to line-in? Does he have stereo/mono mix set as an input?

Hes even switched out sound cards and nothing gets through.
We're really wanting to get voice to work, it just saddens me that something is preventing it and we cant figure out what it is.

XP, Start, Settings, Audio icon, use Hardware Tab, check hardware will run tests on the mic and heaphones to determine if any signals are getting through. Load DirectXDiag (yes I know SL doesn't use DirectX but will will check the soundboard out) Music tab, run tests.

I'm having problems with what does come through. It's all garbled and mangled. I've set my sl settings to use my computer defaults - which is a step up from the "default" option (almost nothing but static comes through then).

The voice beta worked perfectly for me in the past, I dunno what they changed for the first look...

[Update] I tried again today and whatever was going wrong yesterday seems to have fixed itself. Yay!

He's using voice viewer, but there are no white dots above anyone's head so he can't hear them, and there's no white dot above his head, his mic works perfectly for every other program except SL. For some reason the voice program isn't coming up I don't think.

Has he enabled voice in the preferences of the client?

Is he on voice-enabled land?

Actually, I'm on voice enabled land, yet I have no indication that I have voice enabled, I have double checked everything. Should I have some sort of 'dot' above my head or something? In There.com, you would have a straight red line above your head, which mimiced a sound wave when you spoke, I have nadda...

Similar issue here. I am an estate owner and, though I think I have checked every Voice option correctly, my land does not display that is is voice enabled nor does a white dot appear over my head. When I go to another estate/land that is enable, I can see my dot.

When I first signed in to FirstLook, Voice was actually enabled on my land but after resetting it exploring the menu options, 'Allow Voice Chat' no longer enabled voice chat on my land.

Anyone else having this issue?

Never mind. After spending a bunch of time trying to solve this issue, I see buried in a JIRA note that there is a schedule for enabling sims and I have to wait another 10 days or so.

Wish LL put that info in the blog announcement so I wouldn't have wasted so much of my morning trying to debug it. I wouldn't have bothered with FirstLook had I known.

Ok, now I have mine working at last.. Uninstalled all traces of SL.. ran registry cleaner, defraged HD (good time to do so), installed new copy of standard client, and firstlookvoice, worked straight away, well............. on and off, but thats a voice server connection issue, it drops now and again and you have to relog to make that work.. would have liked a refresh button function.....

Oh, also make sure if you use Windows, Start, Settings, Control Panel.. Firewall Icon.... Exceptions Tab... that SLFirstLookVoice.exe and SLVoice.exe and any other SL related programmes are checked, so your firewall doesn't block them.
