Is it me, or is the Dazzle viewer literally just a re-skin of the SL user-interface? I mean don't get me wrong, it does look a bit prettier, but I personally don't have any issues with how the SL interface looks now.

What I do have issue with is the behaviour of the interface in most cases. The main gripe at the moment being the bloody release-keys and instant message buttons, I don't want them! There are tons of easy ways to integrate these features into the interface without requiring a third row of buttons that cover my HUDs =(

As far as I could tell from an hours use, it's a reskin, although they insist it's got otherstuff too.

Just skin as i know, you can change this already if you want to spend hours doing it manually in all other clients tho wich is a yawn, but they just need to make a ui that much easier to edit, add functions to.

Debug already have ui / editable ui, but it doesnt do a thing.

Hope it's just a proof of concept

As much as I like the idea of a skinable interface, I am repelled by the one Dazzle comes with. Sorry, but it looks like the home-pixeled UI stuff that comes with kde or winamp.
On the other hand I love the current interface, I wish my windows would look so minimalistic cool.

I find the new skin wishy washy, i.e. the colours weak and uninspiring, so I'm asuming its to go with the grids total performance of late.

It doesn't look cute, awesome, great, gel type, or anything even resembling any of those words. It looks like something a 1st year Graduate might throw together in a Sunday morning before he had his first coffee.

LL give us a mod skinable client, then I'll use those words and you will see why you should not try and be masters of all.. not even jack of anything like this.

If they do make it easily moddable then that would be good, I just hope they move the stuff that controls the interface out of the OS X application package though, or updates will break it every time.

I do on the whole though prefer the darker interface, I hope there'll be the option to switch between the two.

Dazzle Is Terrible!!!!!!!
04-09-2008 23:01
The ONLY redeeming feature of this Dazzle release is the fact that the Statistics window is moveable and resizable now. yay. other than that this is the worst crap they've ever released on us. Tried it on a Mac, trashed it after the first failed TP. Don't plan on downloading this for Vista. I don't mind the 1.19 viewers now that i'm used to the new UI, in fact i've always tried to use the latest RC and FL viewers so the 'forced' upgrade was not a big deal for me, but i agree with many who claim that Dazzle is bad for the eyes. And I don't really feel like editing XML files to re-skin it. That would be their job, not mine. If they would provide us with a GUI to easily re-skin or revert to the default theme I believe there would be much rejoicing.

The UI should not be bright and shiny but less intrusive and more transparent... like every version before it. No one was complaining about the colors, icons or theme of the UI yet this is what they choose to work on. whtvr. fix the grid please LL. kthx.

Color scheme was obviously done by a morning person. Grumble.

What's the point of making the UI skinable when the layout and format changes every few weeks? Unless you want to be redoing your skin files to make them fit on every release.

Making Dazzle Look More Or Less Like Previous Versions
04-13-2008 09:49
Part of the Dazzle Viewer (1.20 series) is the ability to make it look the way you want.

Below are instructions to make it look more or less like older versions.

It would be nice if it were a tab on preferences, but at least its _possible_ to make custom changes.

(Note: I installed this and it looks good to me, YMMV)

http://www.rpgstats.com/SL/Dazzle-Retro.zip

Contains the custom colors.xml file and darker images

http://www.rpgstats.com/SL/Dazzle.zip

- Contains a blank colors.xml file and the Dazzle UI images
(for those who wish to revert without a re-install)

Extract the zip file of your choice, there will be two folders. "app_settings" and "skins"

Copy the content of those two folders into the right places in your SecondLifeReleaseCandidate program folder ( on windows this is C:\Program Files\SecondLifeReleaseCandidate\ by default )

If you do like it and want to make a donation of some kind...
Just send it to Thraxis Epsilon in SL.
