So are we getting voice or are we just gonna sit here and twiddle our thumbs and daydream about it? The sad thing is that when PS3's home comes out, I think it will take alot of sl players with it.

Not sure you who mean by "we". The voice viewer is already available for Windows and Mac and a lot of the main grid is voice enabled.

And Home isn't going to take that many people.

It is true, that you do have to actually enable it, for it to work, and have the right hardware. Getting to actually work for long periods is perhaps the most difficult. Many have had problems getting it to setup in the first place (including me), you also have to check that the sim you are on is actually enabled. Search the forums, there are plenty of posts about how to get voice enabled.

Wasn't home lacking in the user-creativity department and forcing you to buy canned objects from sony?

IMHO thats the whole point of SL, user creations.

Home is nothing like sl other than your an avatar.. i dont see why your comparing it really, guessing your a fanboy that hasnt researched much...

SL Voice is working just fine for me, and everyone i know that wants it is using the first look viewer, those that arent to bothered yet arent using it, whats the problem?
Would you rather they roll it out on the live viewer without full testing so you can complain they missed a bug somewhere?

Voice will get here fully when it gets here... I swear, if people aren't complaining about the bugs, their complaining about how slow new functionality comes along. Perhaps LL wants to ensure that it's working and debugged before a full release... As far as Sony's lame attempt at an SL rippoff will not take people away from SL. The PS3 is a game platform, and SL is a PC platform program. Two different worlds...

Um. I have voice =)

Home looks okay, and I'm sure it'll be far less buggy than Second Life, but not nearly as... interesting. Sides the fact I aint getting a PS3, at least not for a long time. Go Xbox and Wii :D

Home? meh pretty and static premade with no scripting or ability to create your own content, wouldnt call putting a image/video on a wall "content".

Think ill stick to SL as it doesnt have any limits, bet you they dont have anything but human appearance either, no custom skinning avatars, no customization like adding attachments (tails , paw , animal legs ect), no animations you can create seft, ect, nuffin, doesnt seem very interesting.

And all that canned corporate glory can be had for the measly $600 price of PS3..... if you can get one.

And you can play all those #1 Top Notch Highly In Demand PS3 games with your friends too!..... Oh wait! There arent any yet!! :p

Not sure what makes you think that. There's not even half as many PS3s in the world, as there are SL residents. Then take the tiny tiny percentage of PS3 owners that will actually buy Home, as well as piss poor PS3 sales until their price drop, and you've got something like 3 people. Anyone remember how popular Sims online was for consoles? Oh right, it wasn't.

I will, however, agree that LL needs to get this voice thing done already.

As I've posted in another thread - one of my concerns with voice is that people will just log into SL, TP to where their friends are, and then have a voice chat with them, forgetting about the laggy 3D part of the viewer - i.e. viewing SL (or Home for that matter) as just a voice equivalent of an online chat room - and the creativity aspects of SL may become forgotten!

People have been speculating on the slow down in the SL economy (from slump after a large growth, through dissatisfaction with bugs, through problems with billing, through seasonal variations, through land price crash etc.) - is the roll out of voice a factor? People who use to wander and buy things, are perhaps no standing statuesue just chatting and ignoring the world around them and not worrying about their appearance?

Interesting correlation and observation. Correct? We won't know until it's too late.

This is called a telehub, any private home, starting location... this is what a good portion of SL users do already. Virtual worlds are to each user what they want, many simply want to communicated, joke around, type/talk. Limiting that freedom in the hopes of forcing people to use it for something they weren't... not viable.

SL is not the marketting department for some users' online businesses, is not about generating customer traffic, it is simply a sim. People who make shops here are no different than people who make web sites. The world wide web is not responsible for limiting people from doing non-buy-your-stuff activities either.

Actually by using voice I find it far easier to enjoy the world around me. I’m not staring at the chat history all the time, but looking at those talking or the scenery. And its easier to walk and explorer in voice.
