Why Does SL Suck Again?

Its has been so great since late January and the past two weeks have been plagued with slow rez and crashes. What is wrong? Can it be fixed? I miss a smooth SL and dislike going back to the hampster wheel SL.

The issues maybe many fold. Some not fully related to SL.

Try uninstalling SL completely, clearing cache, run a registery cleaner (assuming you are running Windows), defrag the HardDisc, reboot your system and download/install a fresh copy.

Or maybe invest in a high-res graphics card, perhaps?

I had no problems with SL when I registered back in December, but since late-February the phenomenon we refer to as "lag" has been increasing with me. Even with my high-res graphics card installed last Saturday, it still freezes or crashes (though not as extensive as the months prior to last Saturday).

So, if I do choose to uninstall SL completely, will I lose whatever I have in my inventory? If I do, I'm not taking any risks. I know my username will not be affected - will it?

And is a registry cleaner like an anti-virus scan? Also, where do I go to access "cache"?

you won't loose your inventory, as long as you remember your name and your password for the next time you log in you'll end up exactly where you were just like everytime you log into SL. all your items are stored on the linden lab servers rather than on your hard drive.

I did all this evening, and before I go to bed I'm rebooting my PC, then tomorrow morning I'm reinstalling SL and we'll see what happens.

I can only assume all is ok, or your PC is so borked, you haven't been able to log onto the forums to update the situation.

I have had problems with not seeing furniture,,,walls disappearing,,,I know the things are there I cant bump into them,,,,I have cleared cache thousand times....and each day more my furniture, and every place I go stuff I cant see and just disappearing,,,they there I can see Myself bump into things but I cant see them,,,can anyone help me at all?

That is a current 'issue' with SL atm.

My system is quite powerful and yet I see issues more and more. To be honest, the statement by LL about making stability their priority is simply not happening. They add more and more code, and things are going downhill.

To see the net effects, we only have to see the history over the past 6 months or so, in their rush to get things underway and make progress, they continously do region restarts, installing large server code updates and then immediately, have to rollbacks, as they get cascade failures.

Beta Grid is a waste of time. All resources that are currently utilising Beta Grid should be disbanded and focused on carrying out more tests on code before it goes live. You may think that is the function of Beta Grid, which under normal circumstances, it would be, but it should be relabeled Alpha Grid. Beta Grid is Main Grid judging by what I have seen over the past 4+ years.

For a company that has over 2 million USD passing through its tills everyday and have been doing this for 5+ years, I can only begin to think they are incompetent, they don't care, the programmers are trying to secure their jobs by never getting it really fixed, or management lack true control.

How anyone can seriously consider SL, to become a compendent business platform after all this time, must be thinking very deeply about the ever growing alternatives. LL your time is up, today is the day of reckoning, get it sorted and quickly, or loose your place in the future of VR Business Platforms.

I don't know about the rest of you but the fact that they admit writint into the new release that whenever your view lags for 20? (more like 2) seconds that they automaticaly crash you to see why you were lagging is perplexing. with all the lag and sticking it is only askeing everyonw to be crashing all the time. I go to a lot of clubs and inevitably crash several times an evening. This is just not right. Being beta is one thing but to be used so callously by someone that you are paying a lot of money to is just plain wrong. That code needs to be dropped immediately. It is not fair to anyone in this laggy atmosphere.

Since yesterday Sl has been locking up my mac more and more. This is on a sim with the latest code. Also, have noticed that when teleporting to a friend on the sim with the latest server code I fall through the floor on landing.

Not acceptable.

I thought it was just me following thru the floor Ok so I how do you know which SIm is being worked on? I own two properties in two different sims. One I can use and the other crashes my system. Help.

Sl is getting better and better, we had 69.5 online on Sunday, and could still do all the things I want to do, we have the possibility to flex our sculpted prims now, I have a 4.5megaherz pc and have rarely lag, run mid graphics, windlight and all the goodies, I clear my cache daily, and am often in crowded places...Im a satisfied customer. Its gotta be karma, or that UFO that keeps appearing over my house..dont know.

Avatar imposters on will help your frame rate alot, and your distance you want to rezz, when in clubs, turn it down to its lowest..my 2 cents.

Flexi sculpties?
I have many types of sculpties, from 1st generation to the latest lossless versions. They all have one thing in common, once you make a sculpty, the 'features' functions are not available... I would be very insterested in learning how you overcome this....

I can only assume as sculpties refresh the light map at around 12.5-15fps you are animating the light maps, which is not really a flexi, which is physical to its surroundings, but a regenerating texture. I stand to be corrected of course
