Why?..No seriously..WHY!!!?
I can't even F****** BELIEVE I had to download the "ordinary" viewer to be able to even move. The only reason I'm even paying for SL is because of Windlight... now it's gone and this piece of kife replacement is moot.
10 minutes for the screen to load, without moving... is this a joke? I can't even begin to fathom the moron behind this piece of absolute crap. Simple scrolling in and out is laggy.
I'm running a bloody dual core here with 4 gigs of ram and a vid card with a 675 core clock speed. COME ON!!

Don't you just love it when they improve the things that work so well? I just hope they don't "fix" it so the viewer keeps crashing like the standard does.

Mine works. But it has some new bugs...like you can't attach anything to an attachment point of your choice...things will only attach to the attach point in their memory.
And the viewer won't remember the size of the IM window between sessions.
And the viewer won't remember that I un-checked "show end of last IM conversation" in the communication settings.
And you can no longer grab the tail end of the edit handles, only the arrowhead end.
And there is a massive memory leak. I'm getting out of memory and stack heap collision crashes again. (This was fixed, or mostly fixed, in the last couple of WindLight First Look releases).
Way to go, LL...you had a pretty good First Look client and managed to mess it up as the RC version. Isn't it supposed to go in the OTHER direction?

I've been lucky... The memory leak fixes that were in the last two Windlight clients worked for me and even now I'm not having any memory problems.
I've seen that attachment bug now that I've tried to put on hair that attached to my nose by default (what's up with that?) and my glasses disappeared. (x_x)
Other than that, I'm happy my frame rate went up, both on my PC that I can still run in Ultra and my laptop that barely runs the normal client.
Just.... Please.... No dazzle! (@_@)

Inconsistency..
03-10-2008 13:09
I'm having big trouble too with the new Release Candidate. It starts the process, quits, and then I get the crash reporter window that blinks on and off rapidly. ?!?! And why the inconsistency? Some have problems, some don't. I too have a new and powerful PC.
So do those of us who are having problems have to wait for another release before our problems with this one are fixed?
Great fun, but greatly frustrating.

Did you try using the -purge client parameter? I've had no issues running in WinXP or Linux, on my workstation or laptop. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Client_parameters

I have these same problems and agree 1000% LL has messed up again. I don't think they should be forcing these new clients on us...specially just to report bugs, they need to request beta testors. I hear they don't even look in the forums... they really need to look in these forums to see what we are saying too. Maybe they would know what the problems really are with SL. The issue with attachments seems only to be with newly created items which is a major problem for maker/sellers. How can we sell something that will not attach where it should and attaches to your right hand only? I found this out spending hours making new hair that is now useless.

It's working fine for me too.....when I clear my cache I do get that inventory fetch time out....but I ignore it and just let it be.....my inventory always loads anyway. *shrug*
What I have noticed so far is occasionally I fall under ground, but that has happened in any of the viewers I used when I'm in heavy traffic areas...so again, I ignore it and wait, things correct themselves. The lighting is different, but each time I log in I create a new sky setting and save it so I always have a bunch to work with that look beautiful. But, that's just me...part of the enjoyment for me is being able to control all those variables. I love windlight.....I'm in it for the graphics, I admit.....but if I was just popping in to socilaize and goof off, it might irk me I spose.
Over all I've always been happy with the performance and if things are really buggy on a given day...well hey, there'a always my 1st Life to tend to. *wink*

I'm also having problems with this new viewer. It seems like the old bugs are coming back now and the viewer in general is terrible. I'm not sure if anyone else has seen it before but sometimes the upper body of AV's turn 180° down, making their head stick between their legs. This was a bug that I rarely saw a long long time ago, and now... it's back.. saw it happen a few times already. But the worst thing is that the viewer seems to crash often or something that looks like a memory leak. I for example am running SL viewer and I open my browser (Firefox) and surf web and a few minutes later the browser crashes. Opening other programs or Internet Explorer will work for a few minutes but then they also start crashing on me. The processes don't dissappear either, I can only reboot my PC. It's not always Firefox that crashes first, sometimes if I start the SL viewer for the first time it loads a bit long and then it seems to have crashed already. Closing it down doesn't help and then the same thing starts happening with my other programs, they will work a few seconds or minutes and then if I open some they will also start crashing. Now this would maybe seem like a problem with my computer, but I never had this problem before and I've always used the Nicholaz viewer. It seems like the last 2 updates of Windlight have caused this problem. When I run Nicholaz again (wich I did whole day) it never gives this problem and I do the same things as I always do. Is anyone else having these strange movements with AV's or crashes of other programs when running Windlight viewer? They really messed it up this time, I liked Windlight, but am just forced to use normal viewer or ofcourse Nicholaz viewer again till they fix this.

I have been running this viewer since Wednesdasy morning and must say other than a couple of bugs related to texturing and uploading that I noticed I have been on and offline constantly and at one time for about 4 hours with no major issues and I am 100% sure I have not crashed or had to relog. It works just fine with a steady 40-45 FPS but I am not to technical on packet loss and memory leaks to even quote those figures. Overall, I have never had any problems with any of the viewers and my only reasoning for this is that my system does only 2 things, Second Life and Photoshop. I run Vista with Anti Virus and Firewall. Secondlife has its own profile in the firewall settings and under my graphics card so no issues there. Quicktime is available if I need it but in general that is all it is used for. The only major problem I encountered was a DNS error last year, that was my ISP provider so manually setting an alternate DNS number overcame that problem. As this is a Release Candidate there will be bugs and that is the whole idea of using it, so that these can be reported and fixed in time for a Official Release.

There are many various issues with the RC/Windlight client, what seems to have made things worse is the combining of the 2 clients, has combined the faults/bugs of both as well.
I tried to look at the properties of a NC last night (which had full perms) and I got every menu from the whole client shown in the list. This did 'settle' down after an hour of trying, but I still could not gain access to the NC, nor could the client who purchased one of our products. Although the creator and owner was showing, the aquired date/time was (waiting), I assume/hope this is a asseset server latency issue due to the recent 'updates/rollbacks'.
I have seen a couple of times Runtime Library failures whereby my screen goes black until I crash out of SL, then it corrects itself. As I have .NET Framework v3 and upto date GC drivers, I assume it is still the old memory leak bugs.
There have been so many updated clients of late, that the good work that Nicholaz etc are doing to provide stable clients, are under pressure to keep up. I sometimes wonder if LL keep rolling out these clients to disparage others from doing their jobs for them. After all, if the bugs get fixed, who needs so many programmers? Job Protection Scheme?

Search?????
03-14-2008 09:11
Has anyone noticed that with the past TWO viewers..the search isn't working properly either? I use the search as my main lm retriever so I don't have 1000's of lms, but with the search the way it is, I can't find anything anymore?
Is there a way to fix that? Or am I the only one having that problem??? LOL.

first off minor issues
Firstlook veiwer looks awfull the colours are wishy washy and every minor improvement to the look is wasted by anumber that make it look worse.
Major problems..I only downloaded first look in the hope that some miricle might have happend and the endless whiring that is my hard drive crunching away might stop, but no it hasn't it has remained the same, I hate to thin how many pc's this platform as been the ruination of.
Memory leak..this is truely terrible here, never before on any veiwer has it been so bad that it has shut down my pc, this happens with this version on average twice aday if sim crashes don't get to it first.
ohh and put all the sims on havok 4 ..or well basically just pick one server and run with it, the grid is heaving and graoning with twice the number of people on it from a year ago and your policey of using different ones is just adding more pain to the grid, standardise fast...
ohh btw I love your new ToS which in laymans terms means Hi thanks for the money we screw up tough, this is our toy and you should feel honored to be allowed to use it.
