Well, seems this version is unstable. Up until this version, I could run WindLight without a hitch. But, this recent one crashes on the start up screen.
I've cleared cache, uninstalled and reinstalled..other than a new uber-computer, any suggestions.
BTW: System specs are:
Windows XP SP2 Intel Core 2 dual 2 GB Ram nVidia GeForce 7900 GS PCIe

Weird thing is, apart from changing that one wrong web page address in the GERMAN version in the viewer, they supposedly didn't change things.

For me the same issue began patch release before last and was happening on the New Release Candidate, 2 release ago as well---so it must be coming from that. I still can't log in with Windlight, crashes most often just before I type in user name and password. I also notice that the Send Crash report which comes up everytime, does not appear to be getting sent, because when I log into regular viewer, afterwards, I have to send a Crash report. Vista 32 nvidia 8800's SLI quad core Anyone know if anyone has resolved this?

I have also been having similar issues with the Release Candidate viewer, regular viewer, AND Windlight viewer. My issue is that it crashes when connecting to a region while logging in and I only just started having the issue after the Release Candidate viewer crashed on me last night, so I don't understand what the issue is.
This really bums me out because I have been having issues with the wi-fi on my laptop (which didn't start until I fixed my wireless router), so now that I'm home on my desktop computer and the internet connection is fine, I cannot log into SL. Aieee! It's just one thing after another lately >.< but ah wells.
EDIT: And yes, I am trying to log in through different locations.

Check this: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3885 sounds like that may be the issue. Also you can try setting the -login parameter as described here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Client_parametersThat works about 70% of the time for me, seems to depend on whether it starts logging in quickly enough to avoid loading whatever it is of the login screen that's making it crash.

Thanks, Kevin! I will be sure to give this a try when the maintenance update is over. EDIT: I was just able to finally log in. I completely un-installed Quicktime, since the trouble started when I updated it, un-installed and re-installed the SL client again, and I got it.

Issue is still occuring with todays windlight update--however now I am able to actually get to the connect button sometimes, but it will crash just before it is finished logging in.

I DO use a G15, and have disabled all of it in Task Manager and preferences, but still no luck. Apparently this has worked for some people. Anyone else with G15? who have disabled it but still no luck?

Anyone else with G15? who have disabled it but still no luck? Hey Rebecca, Try this: Start the normal SL viewer/ choose View on top menu/ choose edit preferences/then youl find a special logitech tab where you can choose the g15 or z10 speakers. Put this on speakers. Then below there unmark all the display options. Save settings and close the normal sl viewer. Now go to windows task manager and search for lcdmon.exe under the processes tab and end its proces. Close taskmanager and start Windlight. This worked for me only after i killed the lcdmon.exe process!!! And if that dsnt do the trick plz try another keyboard than the G15 to see if it works. Hope it worked Oh btw you need to kill the lcdmon.exe process everytime you restart windows http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3885

Thx for trying, but I've already done all those things repeatedly and no luck.
I use too many G15 macros in other applications to uninstall it for Windlight. I'm just hoping LL discovers the problem with Windlight and their Logitech G15 compatibility.

Are other people who have resolved the issue by disabling the G15, using Vista like I am?
On the Jira I received a Linden reply, explaing that in the new Release Candidate, released yesterday, they have gone back to the 'old login" style, and think this will fix the issue with for the G15 and the login for Vista as well. I will try the new release candidate later today and see how it goes.

I was just puzzling over this issue lately, myself!
I recently got a first-generation g15 keyboard and as long as the services for the keyboard are running (the processes for individual displays don't seem to be the problem, only the LcdMon process seems to be related, though I haven't confirmed it), windlight crashes early during an attempt to login, or on rare occasions shortly after the viewer is opened. If the services for the keyboard are killed in task manager (and be sure to get rid of the SirReal script if you have it, it will restart your lcdmon process if it's running when you stop the process.), then the problem doesn't occur.
I also notice that in the GamePanel Manager program, it lists a Second Life program, which leads me to believe that there's a compatibility or bad scripting problem with a g15 script designed to work with the viewer.
It only seems to affect the login process, as the viewer works just fine if I turn the services back on after logging in.
Oh, quick edit: I haven't tried using the release candidate for the standard viewer that is intended to fix this problem.

I am happy to say this latest Windlight finally works for me, after weeks of being unable to use Windlight!!
I also see a major improvements in Avatar appearance. I am not seeing the setting for draw distance. Has this been changed?

Has this been changed? yeah great it works for you finaly To change draw distance you need to mark the custom option in graphics tab. Then all options will be displayed and you can customize it to your needs
