I downloaded latest first look this morning. I remember in the changed log it mentioned...
* Fix for: Textures applied via "Select Texture" are applied to all sides.
I do recall this always being a issue where you drag a texture to he edit panel and it doesn't apply to all sides. But now when i try to do it, it only applied to the top of the prim. I rezzed a cube and dragged a texture onto the edit window. It would not apply to any side but the top. I had to manually texture each side of the prim 1 by 1 to get the whole prim textured. I bug reported the problem, but i would like to know how many others are experiencing this issue? It also does this for the texture picker tools, so there is no way around it.

Exactly the same problem and reported to the PIT or SLIT, whichever you like best.
When applying textures via any method (except perhaps scripts, I never tried them) only one side is updating, and it seems to be the least significant face that is selected.

e.g:
You select a cube and try to apply a texture, it applies to the top (face 0).
You switch to select texture mode so all faces are selected and choose a texture, only the top changes (face 0).
You select faces 2, 3 and 5 and apply a textures, only face 2 (one of the sides) changes.

exactly. bug reported it twice. I'm getting frustrated at this...

Fix should really fix bug not generating new one! How do they expect me to change texture of whole linkset of 40 prims???? selecting faces one by one???

Bug-reported that one too. Here's my bug report (#642257) :

From: someone

Steps to reproduce the bug:
Ctrl-4, create a box prim
Click "Edit"
Select "Position" and re-select the prim.
Open "Texture picker"
Scroll down to your texture folder and select a random texture to which you have full-perms
Click "Select"

Observed results:
Only one face of the prim is textured with the texture selected in the last step.

Expected results:
All faces of the prim should be textured with the texture selected in the last step.

Checking / unchecking "Apply immediately" doesn't change behavior

The issue can also be found in Jira as VWR-182. If you feel this is an important issue, you can vote for it in Jira or comment on it.

Many thanks to Gearsawe Stonecutter for posting the following work-around to this problem on the Jira:
From: Gearsawe Stonecutter
Holding Shift and dragging the texture onto the object will still apply the texture to all sides of the object.

I actually had the opposite happen to me: I was trying to only change the texture on the top of the prim and it kept changing the entire prim even though I had the "select texture" checked and was only selecting the top of the prim.

Make sure you have the latest FirstLook. That was an issue the previous two builds had, not the current one. The current build has the issue the OP posted.

I found a work around but it shouldn't have to be done this way hehe. Rez your objects as spheres since spheres only have 1 side. After applying the texture to the sphere turn it into a cube. The cube will have that texture on all sides then.
