I get a message saying..
A new version of Second Life is available. (Required version 1.18.5.3)
You must download this update to use Second Life
Theres no updates available on the First Look page, and goign by numbers here, thats a downgrade.

Yeah, got that too, looking for a Blog entry about Windlight being taken away, finding nothing.
Look, I simply cannot go back to using the butt ugly base client. I don't care what quirks and bugs are in the windlight viewer, I'll live with them. I cannot tolerate the ugly damned base client anymore. So, can we PLEASE have a download for a windlight client back? If I have to attend our New Years Beach Party with what passes for water in the base client I'm going to get violent. *sighs*

An exploit was discovered in the login system, so that viewer has been taken down.
There is a post about it on massively.com - I don't know whether there are others, though I imagine there will be a Lindenblog one.

I would have appreciated a blog comment before switching it off. Let's hope it's a glitch.

Well, it _was_ less than an hour ago that it was blocked. (I think.)

Ah, yes, the lovely and slow html based signin screen, which will likely fail any time secondlife.com is down.
PLEASE PUT First look back up, LL! Please!

Unreal. I'm glad I haven't paid my tier yet. This crap is getting intolerable.

From: Ordinal Malaprop Well, it _was_ less than an hour ago that it was blocked. (I think.) Yep I was mid-game, no warning, just booted and unable to log in again without downloading a client and no mention on the blog. I thought it was my PC that was playing up.

Oh this is just peachy *rolls eyes*
I looked for a blog comment too....nada..... I really really don't want to go back to the old viewer either...I'm such a windlight whore. lol I'm guessing whatever happened caught them totally off guard....but yes...helloooooo an explanation would be much appreciated here Linden folks. I may just wait it out anyway since I'll be busy IRL over the next few days.

From massively.com: From: someone At 10:55AM SLT (US Pacific) Phoenix Linden reports that "The first look viewer has been taken down and taking further actions to prevent the owner of sdfsfsfds.com from unauthorized access to accounts." and that steps are being taken to address the problem. http://www.massively.com/2007/12/29/german-second-life-users-at-risk/

I suppose that this turned out to be a good thing for me, though...
I have spent the last 6 hours getting a sculpted prim "just right", tweaking it in AC3D and applying the new sculpt texture over and over in an effort to make it look the way that I wanted.
Then this happened and I was forced back to the regular viewer... And discovered that I have wasted over 20 hours worth of work (some on related sculpt projects) because the regular viewer apparently does not display sculpted prims with the same kind of fidelity and they look like vertex vomit for anyone not using Windlight.
I guess it could have been worse, I could have gotten hundreds of hours of work in on this project before discovering the problem. Why doesn't that make me feel any better?
Anyone else notice a difference in how (some) sculpties are rendered between Windlight and Standard? I can't (haven't yet) find it in any of the release notes.

This really is priceless....
you really should not be grumbling about the fact they shut it down... that's the good thing.
What people should be grumbling about is the fact that this was reported on Thursday, and it got shut down on Saturday. Yes the person who reported it should of did more than just post it on Jira. But still..... At least they took quick action after it was posted on SLDev.
Oh and Alyx, are you saying your willing to let the users of the German version put their account info up for grabs just so you can use the windlight client?

[sarcasm]Yes, of course, it's called natural selection.[/sarcasm] Of course NOT. But shouldn't a warning then be enough? Warning people if they use it in German to stop using it or switch to English? OBVIOUSLY that would be a message IN GERMAN. HOW many people actually using the RC and WL IN German are there? You need to be able to read the explanations in English to understand what those two are, the download page is English only, and RC and WL are on a special page. If you can do that, you use the English client anyway. If you can't you won't download them. So the user group should be very small; I don't know anyone really who uses the German version-I had a look at it for laughs, it's not a translation, it's a headache. Oh, in case that sounds like I don't like Germans-no, I'm German myself.
