There's been mention of making the sky/lighting setttings "tradable". Does that mean buy and selling with interface support?

I believe from what is said that it would become an inventory item?

That would be cool if it was an inventory item!
I don't really see anyone selling them for very much, though...if anything. It would be like selling an av shape and nothing else.

If it includes the option to sell day/night cycle packages complete with presets (sensible ones that is) I believe there woud be a good market for it among Estate owners.
Far easier to buy a WindLight package than to build your own, which isn't that easy if you want something convincing I.E. without radoactive water!

Some people not only sell *just* avatar shapes, but will defend that practice to their death. So chances are, you're going to see people selling skies by themselves while trying to come across as some sort of slider warrior. Skies packaged with other effects, such as rain/snow would be splendid. I already set up a rain effect which looks good with a customized sky, sounds and particles. I like this much more than having a severely out of place raincloud in the middle of a clear blue sky.

Say what???!!!! YOu've got to be kidding!!! Selling "sky settings"? Geez, just when I thought buying your shape was bad enough!! How frickin' hard is it to move a few sliders?? Buying shapes is almost as bad as WoW people buying high level characters so they don't have to be bothered "leveling up". Kinda kills the 'fun' of it IMO. Hmmmm.... me wonders.... sell services of moving your mouse for those kind of people so they dont have to?

Hmmmm.... me wonders.... sell services of moving your mouse for those kind of people so they dont have to? Not to go into an economics dissertation…but pleas…There are producers and consumers! And short of the few wood grained cubes I’ve managed to drop here and there, I’m quite happy being a consumer. That’s one of the things I like about SL is that I can buy just about anything imaginable here. Not to mention the unimaginable stuff that I still haven’t found waiting to be bought. Dabbling in a little building or scripting or what ever can be fun, but there will always be some creative go getters out there that can do it better and quicker. Besides I have a job…should be doing it now instead of reading the Forums…but that’s not my point There truly are endless opportunities here in SL for those who want to put in the effort. And if someone can show me a creative and unique Sky that meets some imagined need I feel at that time. Boom…they’ve made a $L for their efforts, and I’ve got more time to play under my happy new sky. DK

If someone wants to buy their high level char. fine, it is just like someone building their own patio/deck or paying someone to do it for them. If you can do it great start a business and start selling yourself. Bonjour

As I said to a friend who bought a WoW levelling service for his character, it's a little like paying someone to go on your vacation for you. He quickly saw he was missing out on the very point of the experience and started a new character. His decision may have been helped by Blizzard shutting down the organization providing that service, hehe.

I'll happily create a freebie pack of sky settings if/when Windlight is debugged and we can start sharing inventory items. I love playing with weather, and it's actually an important part of my next two projects. My favorite self-made sky is "Isle of Storms" for anybody who who gets the Horizons reference. Good times.

From: Tod69 Talamasca Say what???!!!! YOu've got to be kidding!!! Selling "sky settings"? Geez, just when I thought buying your shape was bad enough!! It's all about finding ones that work correctly. Playing with sliders: easy. Making it look like something specific: not so easy. There may not be many sellable settings, but I don't mind seeing it. If someone creates a BEAUTIFUL mediteranean sky/water/clouds setting and they want to sell it, I'd be happy to pay for it, given reasonable cost. From: MarieElize Noel If someone wants to buy their high level char. fine I don't play WoW, however, if someone buys a high level character and doesn't know how to play it well, they should be shot.

Some people can paint masterpieces with a simple paint set. Others couldn't paint a still life of an apple on a table no matter how hard they try, but would still love to hang a masterpiece on their wall, and are willing to pay for it. It's no different with selling shapes or sky settings. Yes, any fool can push sliders around and replicate a given shape or sky setting. But it takes an artistic talent to get something truly pleasing to the eye, and that works in all conditions. Not everyone has that talent. Anyone can, technically, use the terraform tools to sculpt fantastic, realistic terrain. Yet people are still quite willing to pay people like me to do it for them, after their own botched attempts resulted in a jagged, spiky moonscape for the lawn around their new swimming pool.

From: Talarus Luan Actually, it is "Peak of Storms" The Isle itself was not officially named. Bonus points for reading through my mistake! Much like in HZ, white dragons get recolored by the lighting more easily by strange atmospheres (lucky buggers for choosing that color). I'll enjoy Windlight, although once they work through the bugs. (Always happy to meet Horizons players around and about. }:> )

Yes. That was one of my pet peeves in character creation for Dragons. The volcanic region in the Dragon character "room" was lit very poorly, and you would often get something completely different than what you started out with once you got in-world. I had to go back and restart my first one again to get the right color I wanted. I suggested they go "lighting neutral" in the character creation area, but meh; never was gonna happen with all the other issues. Anyway, WindLight is probably going to cause a lot of issues getting lighting conditions just right for most folks. It will be an interesting toy to play with, but for production use, I figure a lot of folks will just want to "turn it off". I hope we are allowed to do that. PS- There's a Horizons Refugees group. IM me if you are interested in joining.

Horizons is dead. The only way it was good was to play a dragon (because no other MMO offered that) and then they boned dragons up the tailpipe and made them useless as group characters, yet completely ineffective solo.
(I own a copy, but never installed it, as I learned it was an MMO and promptly tried to return it (I won't pay $15/mo for a game I'll play a few hours a week), but neither the store, nor Atari would take it back)

There will always be a market for almost anything, even mildly creative. Remembering that some people even forget to plug in an appliance before picking up the phone and ringing support to complain... I can't be bothered to service my car anymore, or even go to the local store to get a newspaper, so we pay someone to deliver it. Its not because I'm lazy, its just that I have different priorities.
