I've noticed a GREAT improvement in my ability to run other programs alongside SL since I downloaded and started using the most recent FL viewer. That's a majorly exciting...
*I can open a new browser window in under a minute, without SL freezing or crashing
*people IMing me from external clients (AIM, for example) only cause a momentary pause
*far, FAR easier to flip between SL and various Firefox windows without lagging, crashing, freezing... on SL or my own comp.
*logging out takes less than 5 minutes, with few forced closings of the program.

Haven't tried running Photoshop next to SL, but I bet I could now.

Overall, memory leak patches are a huge step in the right direction. *claps* Keep it up!

Actually, I think you maybe refering to something completly different. If you run nothing but SL, the memory leaks are still there for the most part, by swapping programmes, you are releasing the system ram to other programmes, and when you swap back to SL, it becomes refreshed.
The lag/stalling you notice, is the API calls to the OS, when it jumps in and reclaims system ram to run the API.
