I keep having problems with the First Look Viewer 1.13.3 (57876) crashing my video driver. Am running on a Toshiba portege M500 laptop. Error message comes up about the ialmrnt5 driver and the screen goes all pixellated with large icons and print

That video card isn't supported, so I don't hink you'll find much help. SL is a 3D intensive application, so really, you should be using an actual 3D accellerator card. The Intel integrated graphics card in your laptop really wasn't designed for stuff like SL. Sorry.

Thanks, I realise that the card is not supported and also that lots of people access SL using all sorts of equipment that currently works under the present viewer (or, at least with simillar crash problems as most other people seem to encounter on a fairly regular basis).

Was hoping that LL might at least note the problem and if there is a simple solution find it in their hearts to look at implementing it.

I am not inclined to replace my current machine just to support SL, so if this proves to be an ongoing problem then I guess i could be out of SL for the immediate future and I suppose many others will be in the same position....

It was just posted on the Blog in the new FL entry that unchecking VBO in prefences may let the FL viewer run on Intel graphics cards. Give that a try,

ialmrnt5 Driver

I have the exact same problem. Have been in SL since December with only the occasional crash because of the Intel driver. Have never been able to use the FL viewer. With today's update on the SL client I now am unable to stay online for more than 5 minutes without the driver crashing. I've tried updating it but that didn't work either. I do not have a check mark in enable VBO.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

I have not had anymore problems since I upgraded my video driver to the latest version using a download from the Intel website. Suggest try same.

I too am having this problem. Everything worked fine until I upgrade my SL client and my laptop keeps crashing with the following error: "The ialmrnt5 display driver has stopped working normally."

Had I known new version was not compatible with my laptop, I would never have downloaded it. I have a relatively new Dell Inspiron E1505 and this is the only application that I have had problems with.

What a raw deal.

Problem solved! I still had my old install so I uninstalled, re-installed the old version and I'm good to go. At least for now!

I have an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6200 and I'm having similar problems (although without the error message of a driver failing.) I have a Toshiba Tecra m4 and Windows XP Tablet Edition. I know that sometimes things don't work with Tablet Edition, but SL did until yesterday, where either it crashes upon login, or what happens is this:
The menu bars all disappear, (on the SL screen) and the screen freezes, flickers, where parts of prims disappear and avatars disappear altogether and I only see their attatchments. When the screen unfreezes, some avatar outfits look like something out of Tron. It continues to happen intermittently until I relog, if, of course, I am able to relog at all without crashing upon login again. So, I'm pretty sure NVIDIA is decent, but, is it safe to say I won't be running SL again? It sure looks that way here. I got my laptop maybe a year and a half ago, so it isn't ancient, either.

ialmrnt5 failure

Windows XP event viewer says:

"The driver ialmrnt5 for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates."

this is a really annoying bug, I hope its easy to fix.

Problems with Intel Graphics
04-29-2007 04:32
After the 1.14 update i got the same problem. So i updated the video driver. Same problem still. Then i noticed another post about how to work around the problem with dual core processors. Nowadays i enter sl, start the task manager, rightclick on secondlife.exe and set the affinity to only one processor. I don't crash anymore...at least not that often. I don't quite understand what dual core has to do with my graphics card but so far i can be in sl on my notebook without crashing every 3 minutes.

Notebook: Dell Inspiron 9400 intel dual core
Graphics card: Intel 945GM

Of course this isn't gonna be a solution if you don't have a dual core.

when you guys crash what happens?

two things happen to me
1 the screen goes static
2 freezes for a bit then the resolution changes and the colors are all jumbled, and I can't change it back and when I try to shut down it gets stuck

with my previous video driver i got this message:
"The driver ialmrnt5 for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates."

after the upgrade i have been getting the blue screen of death.

The majority of problems I read about on the forums, can be attributed to their systems being 'minimum specifications required' or using unsupported graphics cards/chips.
The minimum specifications to play/use SL hasn't changed in years, yet the rendering pipelines have been evolved beyond anything like, it was just a few months ago. The programme itself is unlike any other platform of its ilke, with so many elements and layers to it.

It is about time LL reassessed its minimum specifications and stop kidding people what it really takes to run this game now.

I am getting this same issue. I have had SL loaded and functional on my laptop for the past year and all has worked fine. Immediately after this most recent update, I am receiving this ialmrnt5 error.

So there is obviously a mistake in the programming on how it handles video cards.

I have a Intel 945gm integrated graphics and was having the same problem. I now run SL in full screen mode and it has been rock solid. No crashes. Look for the option under preferances.

LL specificaly state that Intel graphics are not supported so I guess we are on borrowed time. Which is a pity as these setups are very common and it would rule alot of users out if they do not run.

Fingers crossed.

I found another thread on here that had the same issues. Apparently this is only with Intel Video cards. So yes, this is an Intel issue, not a SL programming issue. There is a video driver update on intel's website.

Sorry I dont have the link of the information however searching the forum for the same error message and finding the thread with the intel link should fix it. It fixed mine.
