The new chat history just doesn't work for me. I keep my chat history on most of the time, so that I"m not having to constantly watch the screen to keep up with conversations. Under the new system, chat history takes up WAY too much screen real estate. The top section needs to be either scaleable or removeable.

If you check the JIRA database, there is a bug report for the viewer, requesting that they fix the fact that the "chatterbox" takes up way too much room. Please add your vote for this to be fixed. Suggestions for remediation offered so far by users include splitting text and voice chat functions apart again, and making it possible to minimize some of the UI aspects that, at present, won't scale any smaller.
I agree it absoutley is too large. When I have voice chat disabled in my prefs, and am only doing Text chat and IM's, WHY do I want to waste screen space with controls that are only relevant to voice chat? I don't. They crammed WAY too much into that UI, and it is only usable if you have a HUGE screen and run SL either full-screen or in a larger than normal window. In a 800 by 600 window, the largest default other than full-screen, the chatterbox hogs 1/2 of the screen in any usable form. I may as well be on a text-only forum while that is up, because I can't see all the 3D graphics! _____________________

It is quite possibly the worst, most unintuitive piece of GUI design I've ever seen, and that's saying something having been a Second Life user for over a year. You olderbies have probably seen worse though.

No this is definitly the WORST! I have not used the Voice since the chatterbox has been implemented. I do not know why they had to put everything into one window. Sometimes people (like myself) just want the history open, or IM's or both at the same time. Now it takes up way too much space and you can't have IM's and history visiable at the same time as you must switch between tabs every time. Quite irriatating. Also the JARJA issue you spoke if is now listed as "unreproduceable", which leads one to think that it won't be changed no matter how much we protest.

They've marked a number of issues about the voice chat interface as resolved and lumped these separate issues into a so-called "meta-issue".
In other words, LL has denied us the ability to make issue requests of our own choice, to stand or fall on their own merits, and made it such that we have to either vote for the entire lump of disparate proposals or against the entire lump, despite the lumped proposals not being the same or necessarily even much connected except in the eyes of the busy body doing the aggregating. So if you are thinking you have made a proposal, or have voted for a proposal, you might want to check and see if that proposal is still open for people to vote on or whether you might need to start a new one that includes a request that it not be marked resolved and lumped in with other proposals that are perceived as similar by people that might well lack the ability to make fine distinctions between different ideas, or who are simply trying to reduce the amount of work they have to do reading different proposals or who are simply using this as a means of shutting down suggestions they don't approve of. If my post seems a bit annoyed it's because I am, I don't want my feature suggestions closed and merged into someone else's, and I don't like seeing it happen to other's people' ideas that I liked but now can't vote for because it got marked resolved and merged into a meta-issue that includes stuff I don't want to vote for. Which issue were you talking about, Ceera? _____________________

Go to https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1076to vote on the combined meta-issue for the Chatterbox problems. They combined all the other complaints about Chatterbox into this one JIRA ticket.

I think I could live with it if the Chat History could be torn off from the rest, thus making it just like the way the current Chat History works.

What we REALLY need is to be drag chat windows, etc to a second monitor. I'm constantly annoyed that the area chat covers up most of the left side of *one* of my screens.. Over the last two years, I've tweeked the configuration on chat endlessly and as far as I'm concerned, there is just no way to make chat useful on a single screen. Oh to be able to move that to a window on my second screen... Since I suspect many people have dual screens, this would probably be a very desired feature...
