It appears that there are only 30 minutes in the day that your avatar skin will show all the details that you paid money to have. (default light setting)
I thought i could solve the problem by wearing a light on my body. but this new sky seems to totally overpower any inworld lights. even at night.
Other things that are broken include:-
The darknesst underwater is missing. Maybe Gov'Linden has removed the polusion?
Alpha order has changed again. My fish are swimming over the water again, even though they are physicaly under it.
Eyes are full-bright, so they glow at night. I am sure all the fans of the StarGate TV show will love it!
The horizon goes from blue to black in a split second around the 650m mark. A gentile fade into black for space would be far more realistic.
Sorry my first forum post is a complaint, but these things really need fixing before going live.

Screenshots of the problems, maybe with regular viewer and windlight viewer shots, might be useful.

Play with the Windlight settings, the presets mostly suck when looking at avatars. Turn down the gamma to around 1. I made my own settings file, (cloud free!) and gotta say I way prefer the lighting in this viewer. Much more natural. You just have to mess with it

From now till Windlight goes live would be a good time for people who like the way things look now to save some screenshots of things looking the way they like, while it's still possible to do so.

From now until WindLight goes live would be a good time for LINDEN LAB to get some decent, realistic presets made to distribute in the final release!

Sure, but no matter what they do, the SL appearance we've grown accustom to is going to change permanently soon. No matter if the new system ends up looking better in the eyes of nearly everyone, it is certain that it won't look the same. You'll never be able to go to a place in SL and see it like it was when you first saw it, or when you met your friend there for the first time, or when other such nostalgia inducing events occurred.

That I can live with - as long as:
It looks reasonably realistic - which none of the current presets are.
Estate owners can override client settings to ensure that all visitors see the same thing.
Oh - and someone puts the bloody Moon back!

I can live with it as long as it works properly and I don't crash repeatedly as so many people have said they are doing. I can live with it if they fix the problems we are already suffering from, bugs born from rushed coding and bad design, because someone is overly eager to compete with WHO?? instead of focusing on their die-hard fan-base and giving us an overall better experience.
That's what I can live with =p

I think that being able to toggle between Windlight and Classic views would be a nice idea.

Impossible I fear.
The 'classic' sun was replaced by a particularly horrible rendering of the WindLight sun about 6-8 weeks back... That was presumably the first step in replacing everything with WindLight.

Why? I certainly don't want some estate owner to have control over MY client. Especially as I make movies, as the producer, I want to decide what backdrop to use, not someone who thinks a graveyard setting is perfect for everyone.

I am visually impaired. I habitually have "Noon" on so that I can see what is going on. If anyone starts over-riding my settings, they will be impeding my ability to use SL.

I certainly think that a land owner can give a recomended WindLight setting, and that there should be a way to trade those settings around esp. if one has made a custom for a build. If it's possible for an island owner to set the default to be their custom or recommended sky that would be nice. Other than that, though, no. I wouldn't want it.
Is mouse-moves-sun really gone? I will miss it a LOT if so. I haven't been able to get it to work - has anyone?

It should be an "on enter, override client's settings so that the island appears as it should" but your personal settings are not discarded and it only takes a single click (maybe two) to revert to your settings.

From: Draco18s Majestic It should be an "on enter, override client's settings so that the island appears as it should" but your personal settings are not discarded and it only takes a single click (maybe two) to revert to your settings. An option similar to media controls at the bottom of the screen would be nice, if the region/parcel you're in sets a custom sky, then a little button appears which you can press to enable/disable it, possibly save it (if it's set-up to allow that). That way you can stick with your custom sky, or touch the button to opt-in to using custom skies when available (otherwise you use your own, otherwise you use default). Couple this with smooth fading and we can have a nice seamless experience. ie it takes 10 or 20 seconds or something to fade to a new sky, this way if you're flying around and use custom skies then it won't flicker on and off.
