I thought it would be a nice idea for Linden Labs to allow people to host their own servers. I can't really afford a sim, and, i'm sure there's someone else that can't. And, in case LL thinks they'll lose too much money, sell a pack with all of the software needed for $100-$200, so, that way, they still make money, but, it allows other users to pay $100-$200 once, and then no tier fee's, and no startup costs (other than the software pack). Anyone think this is a reasonable propostion?

I keep hearing rumors about a way to make your own but if anyone has any information i also would greatly appreciate it i think its something to do with the people that made copybot anyway i would like to run my own then i have a greater control over building even if it didnt conect to the grid it would still be of use if other people from my group can get online.

SL is planing to go open source?

this is an article from clickableculture that is an interview with Linden Lab's VP of Product Development Cory Ondrejka. I really hope some of these things == TRUE.

Heck, depending on the license, I would pay 500$ or more for it. If I could host more than 1 sim at a time with unlimited connections, that would be awesome. I would also like LL to consider what they are doing over at multiverse.com
Allow us to have the ability to run the servers etc, but not have to pay anything unless we actually make money off of it. Sort of like, if you don't make cash, we don't make cash kinda deal.

Edited here to add:

I double checked the site, and wow
perhaps the possibility to compete with SL is at anyone's disposal now?
